Manufacturing process: step by step instructions

Drawings for the manufacture of adult and children's bean bags

Before you start making an easy chair with your own hands, you need to make a drawing, look for a pattern on the Internet and copy it from there. Choose any model for the product, at your discretion - just a bag, pear, drop, square, dream up and make a funny animal. Now we select the fabric.

DIY budget bag chair made from old jeans

For the inner cover, it is enough to choose a dense fabric so that after the time the balls do not come out of there - fabric for bedclothes, satin or calico. For an outer cover, choose a fabric for furniture upholstery, jeans, leatherette are suitable, the main thing is that you like it and blend with the overall decor.

As a stuffing, a special filler is used - polystyrene foam. Order online or buy in a store that sells products for the repair and restoration of furniture. It must be remembered that the material is voluminous and almost weightless. When purchasing it, you need to look at the size of the package, and not at the weight. For a bean bag you need 250-300 liters.

The bag chair consists of an outer removable cover, a durable inner and filler

Don't want to mess with Styrofoam, replace it with ceiling tiles- crush it and use it as a filler. Plant components can be used as stuffing, but it is better to change them every six months, as this is a moisture-absorbing material, mold may appear.

Before making a soft fabric chair, we make patterns, lay them out on fabrics, do not forget about seam allowances - 2-3 cm, then you need to circle with chalk. The model consists of the bottom and "petals". First we start sewing the inner cover: all the wedges are sewn to the bottom, then sewn on the sides. Don't forget about the filler hole. Now let's move on to the outer case. It is made in the same way, we sew a zipper on the side.

Patterns for a bag chair on fabric

When the covers are ready, it is necessary to fill the inner bag.

Attention! If you are crafting with children, make sure that the granules do not fall into Airways, since they are volatile, they can easily get into the nose and mouth. We fill in 2/3 of the volume, we sew up the hole. Then we put on the top cover and fasten it with a zipper.

The vast majority of soft chairs can be divided into frame and frameless. Child seats stand apart, the manufacture of which has a number of technological differences. The question arises - is it necessary to pay big money for the finished product, if you can do something similar with your own hands?

We will tell you about the process of manufacturing soft chairs, provide drawings, photographs and videos that will allow you to successfully cope with the task. You will also find a list of necessary materials and tools.

  • 1 What will be required?
  • 2 How to make an easy chair with your own hands?
    • 2.1 Traditional soft product
    • 2.2 Bean bag
    • 2.3 Child seat
  • 3 Drawings and helpful video

What will be required?

First of all, you need to decide on the material of the upholstery. There are significant differences both in the cost of the upholstery and in its physical properties. Consider the most popular options:

  • Velours. Velvety and fleecy fabric. Looks like faux fur.
  • Chenille. Natural material "diluted" with synthetic fibers. Thanks to this, the surface does not roll, it is practical and durable.
  • Flock. The fabric vaguely resembles velor, but experts recommend using flock for the manufacture of child seats. The fabric is easy to clean and wash, has water-repellent and wear-resistant qualities, does not fade.
  • Jacquard. The fabric is easy to clean and highly durable, but the structure includes synthetic fibers. Therefore, loose loops can lead to puffs.
  • Faux suede. The material is fleecy and durable, does not fade and can "breathe". Ease of maintenance is an added bonus.
  • Artificial leather. The material is characterized by high wear resistance. In this case, the skin is distinguished by the presence of embossing.
  • Tapestry. This is a natural and very expensive fabric, which can be distinguished by visible weaving. Multi-colored threads, woven into the overall structure, form beautiful patterns.

At the heart of the most primitive frame structures lies a plywood template. Therefore, you will need sheets of birch plywood, self-tapping screws, nails and a standard set of tools.:

  • protractor;
  • steel ruler;
  • compass;
  • desktop and manual vise;
  • scriber;
  • files;
  • hand scissors;
  • a hammer;
  • hacksaw;
  • wrenches;
  • soldering iron;
  • pliers;
  • table anvil;
  • hand drill;
  • chisel;
  • whetstone;
  • punch;
  • center punch

In the case of the manufacture of a bean bag, your toolkit will be thoroughly reduced. In addition, there are simplified technologies developed by craftsmen that allow you to assemble an easy chair quickly and with a minimum set of equipment.

How to make an easy chair with your own hands?

Any work cannot be started without a clear plan of action. Decide on the design of the future piece of furniture. Creating a frame chair is more difficult, but it looks more respectable.

If you decide to sew a bean bag chair, get ready to master the patterns. Your actions will lie not so much in the field of furniture production, but in the field of sewing art. In any scenario, you will need an approximate budget and an idea of \u200b\u200bthe consumption of materials. For example, a bean bag chair costs 1200-1300 rubles. This includes fabric for the outer (about 300-500) and inner (200-300) covers. Also, 500 rubles are laid for the purchase of a filler.

Perhaps you already have an old "grandfather's" easy chair that has lost its presentation? Then you can drag and repair it with your own hands, as shown in the following video:

Traditional soft product

An ordinary chair requires a thorough approach and an extensive preparatory stage. Consider the list of materials and tools required for the manufacture of a plywood chair with upholstery:

  • 20mm plywood;
  • electric drill;
  • emery skin;
  • screws;
  • jigsaw;
  • metal rims;
  • thin nails;
  • foam rubber;
  • wood glue;
  • artificial leather;
  • stain;
  • black glossy paint;
  • pencil;
  • masking tape;
  • roulette.

Let's get to work:

  • After downloading one of the drawings below, proceed to large-scale work. Calculate the amount of materials and start making a template. First, cardboard templates are made, pieces of plywood are cut out from them.
  • The side parts of a standard chair resemble a banana. You will also need cross bars. Decide on the angles of inclination, bending and dimensions of the product.
  • The surface of wooden parts is cleaned and polished. Special attention give the ends - soak them with heated drying oil, flatten the fibers with a hammer (if bends are provided). Each part of the frame is cut with a jigsaw.
  • The side parts of the chairs are painted or stained. The ends of the sidewalls are reinforced with metal rims. After that, the wrapping process begins.
  • The necessary holes are made with an electric drill. The rims are fixed with screws. First, the back of the back is trimmed with artificial leather, then it is the turn of other fragments of the chair.
  • To secure the fabric, you will need wallpaper nails with large hats. At the back, the upholstery is fixed along the transverse parts (along the very edge), in front it should cover the slats. It is better to process the attachment points with carpentry glue - this will increase the level of reliability.
  • Modern upholstered armchair with your own hands

    Bag chair

    The simplest version of the bag is the so-called pear chair. You can not do without the following materials:

    • calico or satin (about three meters);
    • piece of fabric for the outer cover (about 3.5 meters);
    • lightning meter length;
    • filler;
    • appliqué fabric;
    • scissors, pins and thread with needles.

    Manufacturing:

  • Copy the pattern you like from the Internet, enlarge it and transfer it to the required details. For the upper and lower covers, the work will have to be done separately. The result of your efforts is a small top bottom, a large bottom and six fabric wedges.
  • Sew the wedges and start sewing the bag. small plot must be left unwired. In addition, both bottoms are sewn together. Having finished with the top cover, proceed to sewing the bottom one - the procedure will be the same.
  • From the fabric of your choice, you need to cut out the elements for the appliqué - they are adjusted on top of the cover. The zipper is sewn into one of the wedges - this will allow you to remove the cover and wash it if it gets dirty. Two-thirds of the volume of the inner cover are clogged with filler, which can be used as foam.
  • Having rammed the inner cover with the filler, thread it into the outer one, then fasten the zipper. The bean bag is completely ready for use.
  • Pay attention to the strength of the seams of the inner cover - they should not disperse under the influence of the mass of a seated person.

    How to make a children's easy chair with your own hands will be discussed further.

    DIY bean bag chair

    Baby chair

    Making a frameless upholstered baby seat is as easy as making a regular bean bag. The difference lies solely in the dimensions and colors of this piece of furniture. Bright cheerful tones that do not irritate the eyes and tune in to the positive are welcome.

    • A do-it-yourself soft frame chair for a child can be made in the form of a semicircular “sandwich” from wooden blocks and chipboard. The front wall of this design is made of plywood, the back wall is made of hardboard. The inner space of the glue along the curve of the back is filled with glued pieces of cardboard.
    • After waiting for the wall to dry, trim the irregularities with a construction knife. A layer of foam rubber is carefully glued on top, on which the upholstery will subsequently lie. Eco-leather or flock can be used as upholstery fabric - these options will allow your design to survive in an unequal struggle with felt-tip pens and paints.
    • Now about the dimensions. A standard adult chair has a meter height (some models reach 120 centimeters) with a lower bottom diameter of 30 and an upper one of 15 centimeters. The height of the child seat must not exceed 60 centimeters (diameters will be 25 and 11 cm, respectively). Consider this nuance at the design stage of the pattern.

    So, with the help of the presented video, you will learn how to make a bean bag chair with your own hands, which has gained immense popularity in our country:

    By the way, if you have euro pallets available, then you can make a chair with your own hands and from such material, and then just throw a comfortable soft pillow on the seat. Don't believe? Watch the following video:

    Many people think that furniture manufacturing- this is magic, to comprehend the secret of which a mere mortal is not able to. Believe me, with a minimum set of tools, desire, attentiveness and perseverance, you can easily cope with the task. We have presented everything you need - drawings, photos and videos, so go ahead and amaze your loved ones with your art!

    In the considered version of making the Adirondack chair with your own hands, the design features are preserved, but there are no difficult carpentry joints. It will not be difficult to repeat the project by making wooden parts according to our drawings and assembling the product with screws.

    The work uses a planed 20 mm pine board, galvanized screws 4.5x40 mm, bolts 10x60 mm with a square headrest and nuts with washers. A jigsaw and grinder will speed up the process, and manual frezer will allow you to carefully round the edges, but all blanks can be cut with a regular hacksaw, and the burrs can be removed manually with sandpaper.

    Adirondack chair device: 1 - back strap; 2 - screws; 3 - upper cross member; 4 - back leg; 5 — side support (spar); 6 - bolts; 7 - armrest; 8 - front leg; 9 - seat bar; 10 - armrest support

    Parts manufacturing

    The most complex elements of the chair are the two side supports of the seat. Make a full size template for the spars on paper.

    Side support drawing

    Draw the bottom side of the part, raise the first perpendicular segment on the left and two more at appropriate angles to point A. Mark point C and draw a cutout for the transverse tie as shown in the diagram.

    Mark an angle of 75° with vertex C, extend its underside with a line. Draw an arc with a radius of 116 mm, measure the angle at point D and connect them with a line segment.

    Draw a rounding between points A and B using a square grid or an impromptu pattern as in the photo.

    Place the cut template on the board, avoiding large knots and leaving small knots away from the edges of the blanks. Circle the contours and file the details using a saw on straight sections, and cut out curly contours with a jigsaw. Guide the tool blade in the direction of the grain so that the wood is less chipped.

    Detail drawings: 1 - upper backrest guide; 2 - lower cross member of the back; 3 - armrest (2 pcs.); 4 - armrest stop (2 pcs.)

    Detail drawing: 1 - back strap (7 pcs.); 2 - seat bar (8 pcs.); 3 - front leg (2 pcs.) 4 - back leg (2 pcs.)

    Transfer the drawings of the remaining elements of the chair to the boards, also using a template, or draw directly on the blanks and mark the next identical part according to the first cut out.

    The shape of the rounding of the armrests is not structurally important, they can be drawn by hand or according to the pattern. Mark the second part in a mirror so that the chips when sawing are at the bottom of the workpiece.

    Sand the ends, connecting the same workpieces together if possible. Roughen the edges of the upper surfaces of the armrests and backrest slats, or simply soften the sharp edges with a grinder.

    Chair assembly

    Wooden furniture always begins to rot from joints, the inner surfaces of which cannot be processed on a finished chair. Therefore, cover the parts before assembly with 2-3 layers of antiseptic.

    Most of the components of the chair are connected with screws, the pilot holes for them are drilled with a combined countersink, matched to the thickness of the screws. When they want to hide the hats, they are deepened and closed with plugs for glue.

    Put an unnecessary board on the table, and place the left side support and front leg on top. Align the workpieces according to the drawing, mark the drilling points.

    Assembly diagram of the side of the chair

    Make holes for the bolts and fasten the parts. Install the rear leg, placing it perpendicular to the bevel of the support. Assemble in the same way right side frame. Connect the sides of the chair with the lower backrest bar and the first seat bar.

    Install supports on the front legs, fixing them with clamps for convenience. Attach the armrests with screws.

    Attach the upper backrest rail, aligning it with the lower crossbar. Right now it is possible to correct possible inaccuracies of marking and uneven cuts that have accumulated by a millimeter.

    Small errors are eliminated by shifting the upper crossbar and trimming the corner under it. In extreme cases, you will have to unscrew the lower crossbar and adjust the cutout.
    Mark the center lines on the cross planks and on the center backrest. Holding the latter at the top with your hand or grabbing it with a clamp, drill a pilot hole and wrap the bottom screw. Check the vertical position and secure the top of the rail.

    Screw in turn all the strips with a uniform interval. Take a string and tie one end to a pencil and the other to a nail fixed at the junction of the seat and back. Draw a radius of curvature, cut the strips according to the markup and sand the edges.

    After adjusting the width of the last seat rail, put it in place. Inspect the assembled chair and sand the marking marks, chips and other defects. Carefully sand the top surfaces of the back and seat parts.

    Coat the wood oil impregnated if you want to keep the natural shade. Use a synthetic resin glaze to create an opaque colored surface.

    The summer cottage serves not only for growing vegetables and fruits, but also for a good outdoor recreation. This is best done in a luxurious and reliable armchair made by yourself. We will talk about how to make it, what materials, tools and knowledge will be needed below in the article.

    If you like to tinker with wooden crafts, it will not suit you to install standard plastic chairs on your own site. They not only do not fit into the natural atmosphere of the kingdom of plants and flowers, but also unreliable.

    In addition, their design does not always contribute to a good rest. Therefore, in this case, we offer you a simple model of a wooden garden chair, which will organically fit into the landscape of a suburban area. You do not need special skills, as in forging or welding metal products, although knowledge of carpentry is desirable.

    Requirements for country wooden furniture

    Special conditions of use require that the design meet certain parameters. Then it will last long enough in the original version.

    Let's consider them in more detail:

    1. Immediately count on the fact that the chair needs to be made transportable, then in case of bad weather you can quickly hide it under. Of course, special antiseptics and paints used to protect wood will allow the structure to withstand atmospheric influences, but we advise you not to test it in such cases.
    2. Choose for garden furniture hardwood, among which are oak, beech and walnut. Although the price of such materials is higher, the quality of the construction will be excellent. Aspen, larch, cedar and pine are also little susceptible to decay, but the disadvantage of the latter is sensitivity to impact. Even a small one is enough for a dent to appear on the chair, which then will not be easy to remove.

    1. Particular attention should be paid to the protection of the material from atmospheric influences.. This is due to the fact that it can be under the influence for a long time. sun rays, often gets caught in heavy rain, so you need to protect it from such tests.
      Preparation for protection begins at the stage of harvesting wood for the manufacture of furniture. Fold the boards under a canopy in a pile, press it heavy on top and leave to dry, it’s very good if you could buy dry and high-quality lumber right away.
      In the process of work, the blanks must be sanded, impregnated with an antiseptic, and then with hot drying oil. At the next stage, dry them, and varnish them for outdoor use.

    1. The relief of the texture and the decorative cut of the tree will depend on the number of undeveloped branches and knots, i.e. the more, the better. Such a polished surface may resemble strolling grape snails.

    Tip: when assembling a wooden chair for a summer residence, fasteners should be sunk into the material, then you will avoid puffs on clothes and scratches.

    How to prepare for work

    First of all, it is necessary to pre-assemble all the tools that you may need, as well as the material. In our case, all the blanks, with the exception of the insert strips, will be cut out of a cedar board, the thickness of which should be at least 20 mm.

    Details Dimensions are in mm:

    Manufacturing process

    Preliminary stage - cutting the main elements

    Let's start by cutting out the details. To do this, we will prepare a detailed drawing, so it will be easier for us to continue manufacturing the chair.

    Prepare the parts that will later become the rear legs and back. To do this, try to carry out all the work based on a detailed drawing with explanations, where there are appropriate tips. After consulting with it, mark and cut the desired blanks.

    Cut the back legs, backs, seats and armrests from wide panels.

    Get them by gluing boards that you need to match the color and texture of the wood.

    Tip: Select the slots for the keys in advance, positioning them so that they are invisible after the cutting is completed.

    1. Cut out the back legs using a cardboard stencil. Attach the template to the blank that will be used as the leg, and circle it with a pencil. Connect and pull together two blanks with masking tape so that you can cut both at the same time.
      Carry out cutting with a small margin. To fit parts to size, use a milling cutter or planer.

    1. Cut out the back. To do this, cut the workpiece in such a way that the glue line is exactly in the middle between the boards. Bevel the bottom end of the backrest at a 12.5° angle to match the profile of the rear legs. Round the top edge with a 9mm radius.

    Having finished these works, you can start assembling the product, for this you will need to cut and fit other parts in place.

    We continue to work

    Below are instructions for assembling and cutting the rest of the elements.

    Back and rear legs

    1. Drill holes for fasteners in advance so that the workpieces do not crack.
    2. Use screws (50 mm) and glue to fasten the rear legs to the backrest.
    3. Connect the side ends of the backrest to the legs at an angle of 12.5°.
    4. Close the gaps between the parts with insert strips by making them of the appropriate profile. The ends of the slats and the opposite ends of the legs must match, which will indicate the correct position of the back.
    5. Screw the inserts to the back with screws (l = 50 mm).

    Tip: keep in mind that the strength of the seat will depend on the location of the boards that should be placed from one leg to another.

    1. Take a circular saw and cut the piece to width.
    2. Mark the sides of the seat, which are angled.
    3. File the workpiece from the sides along the outer marking line. You can not yet clean the raw ends.
    4. Select a groove on the back end of the workpiece, the bottom of which is tilted at an angle of 12.5 °. This must be done because the seat will be at an angle to the back. In this case, the joint will turn out to be dense, which is what we need.
    5. Round the front end of the seat.
    6. Screw the seat to the legs, sand its side edges, fit them flush with the rear leg plate.

    Seat

    front legs

    1. Cut out the front legs by beveling their top and bottom edges 6˚.
    2. Screw them to the rear using screws (l = 32 mm), reinforcing the connection with glue.
    3. Make a proleg - a jumper between the legs, so that the garden chair gets additional reliability and stability.
      You need to cut it to size:
      • attach the workpiece to the front legs and mark the fixing grooves. In this case, make the bottom of the groove at an angle of 12.5 ° to the plate;
      • select to a depth of 9 mm from the high side of the groove;
      • attach the jumper to the front ends of the legs using glue and screws (l = 32 mm).

    armrests

    1. Saw out wedge-shaped supports for them, beveling their top edges by 6 °.
    2. Screw the supports to the front legs using glue and screws (l = 32 mm).
    3. Cut out the armrests as well as the back support for them.
    4. Clean the ends of the parts with sandpaper.
    5. Cut the ends of the support at an angle of 30°, the top edge at 31.5°.
    6. Press the rear support piece against the back with clamps.
    7. Replace the armrests and loosen the clamps.
    8. Level the position of the rear support element, achieving a strict horizontal armrests.
    9. Tighten the clamps and screw the rear support to the backrest.
    10. Screw the armrests to the rear support, then to the wedge supports, and then to the front legs, using glue and screws (l = 50 mm).

    Close the recessed screw heads with wooden plugs and grind them flush. Take hot drying oil and saturate the wood with it, dry the product and varnish it. You will end up with a comfortable classic design with a beautiful texture that will be appreciated by your family.

    Conclusion

    Wooden chair for suburban area, made independently, will add the necessary flavor. The main thing to remember is that it is necessary to protect the structure from atmospheric influences so that it lasts for a long time. Only familiar tools and materials will be used in the work.

    The most primitive frame structures are based on a plywood template. Therefore, you will need sheets of birch plywood, self-tapping screws, nails and a standard set of tools.:

    • protractor;
    • steel ruler;
    • compass;
    • desktop and manual vise;
    • scriber;
    • files;
    • hand scissors;
    • a hammer;
    • hacksaw;
    • wrenches;
    • soldering iron;
    • pliers;
    • table anvil;
    • hand drill;
    • chisel;
    • whetstone;
    • punch;

    • 20mm plywood;
    • electric drill;
    • emery skin;
    • screws;
    • jigsaw;
    • metal rims;
    • thin nails;
    • foam rubber;
    • wood glue;
    • artificial leather;
    • stain;
    • black glossy paint;
    • pencil;
    • masking tape;
    • roulette.

    Let's get to work:

    1. After downloading one of the drawings below, proceed to large-scale work. Calculate the amount of materials and start making a template. First, cardboard templates are made, pieces of plywood are cut out from them.
    2. The side parts of a standard chair resemble a banana. You will also need cross bars. Decide on the angles of inclination, bending and dimensions of the product.
    3. The surface of wooden parts is cleaned and polished. Pay special attention to the ends - soak them with heated drying oil, flatten the fibers with a hammer (if bends are provided). Each part of the frame is cut with a jigsaw.
    4. The side parts of the chairs are painted or stained. The ends of the sidewalls are reinforced with metal rims. After that, the wrapping process begins.
    5. The necessary holes are made with an electric drill. The rims are fixed with screws. First, the back of the back is trimmed with artificial leather, then it is the turn of other fragments of the chair.
    6. To secure the fabric, you will need wallpaper nails with large hats. At the back, the upholstery is fixed along the transverse parts (along the very edge), in front it should cover the slats. It is better to process the attachment points with carpentry glue - this will increase the level of reliability.

    Bag chair

    The simplest version of the bag is the so-called. You can not do without the following materials:

    • calico or satin (about three meters);
    • piece of fabric for the outer cover (about 3.5 meters);
    • lightning meter length;
    • filler;
    • appliqué fabric;
    • scissors, pins and thread with needles.

    Manufacturing:

    1. Copy the pattern you like from the Internet, enlarge it and transfer it to the required details. For the upper and lower covers, the work will have to be done separately. The result of your efforts is a small top bottom, a large bottom and six fabric wedges.
    2. Sew the wedges and start sewing the bag. A small area must be left unsewn. In addition, both bottoms are sewn together. Having finished with the top cover, proceed to sewing the bottom one - the procedure will be the same.
    3. From the fabric of your choice, you need to cut out the elements for the appliqué - they are adjusted on top of the cover. The zipper is sewn into one of the wedges - this will allow you to remove the cover and wash it if it gets dirty. Two-thirds of the volume of the inner cover are clogged with filler, which can be used as foam.
    4. Having rammed the inner cover with the filler, thread it into the outer one, then fasten the zipper. The bean bag is completely ready for use.

    Pay attention to the strength of the seams of the inner cover - they should not disperse under the influence of the mass of a seated person.

    How to make a children's easy chair with your own hands will be discussed further.
