Every mother, like a sorceress, strives to preserve the childhood moments of her baby. Tags from the maternity hospital, roots from baptism, strands of cut hair are sent to the piggy bank of the most expensive. No less worthy copy of the story of growing up of a little offspring are casts of arms and legs.

It will be especially interesting for a child to see tangible proof of his size in infancy. Many children's shops and shops offer ready-made safe mixtures for making an imprint, but a do-it-yourself cast of a child's hand and foot will be a good alternative.

Purpose

There are a great many options for composition for family creativity, there are even options for those who have hypersensitive skin. To select the material, it is necessary to determine the purpose of the product. If hand-made casts of arms and legs are hidden in a casket or box of memories, it is necessary to choose a light material that would convey only the dimensions of the limbs. In the case when the imprint of the limbs of the child will be constantly in sight, its formation must be carried out from durable materials that can withstand both decoration and subsequent use in the form of a statuette or frame.

From salt dough

You can make casts of handles, legs with your own hands from ordinary salt dough. Products for making the base are always available in any home, so it should not be difficult to recreate the creative process. For the test you will need:

  • 2 cups of good flour;
  • 2 cups finely ground salt (you can grind it in a coffee grinder);
  • water.

Manufacturing

In a tall and capacious bowl, it is necessary to mix the dry part: fine grinding of salt ensures high-quality mixing of particles with flour. This will greatly simplify the whole process. Further, it is necessary to pour into the mixture in small doses. warm water, the amount of liquid depends on the type of flour and its type, some use corn, which is quite hard and absorbs a lot of water. Note that the more evenly the dough is kneaded, the more obedient the basis for the impression will be. When the mass becomes thick and viscous, it is completely ready for modeling.

Making casts of arms and legs with your own hands is quite simple. But things are worse with the process of their hardening. After the dough is rolled out to the required size (if the handle or leg is not cut out from a common piece, you should take care of the density of each edge in advance), you can apply the baby's hands. It’s worth pressing wisely: a uniform print will give the craft a well-groomed look, and deepening in a certain place will spoil the overall picture.

A cast of children's arms and legs, made with your own hands, needs to be dried. For this, a room with a permanent temperature regime(the balcony is suitable only on hot summer days). Baking the base in the oven is not worth it, the dough will rise and break the relief of the print. After 2-3 days, the base is subjected to registration. The craft can be painted in a monophonic version or given a creative shape. Many modern families like the avant-garde and positive thinking. The cast can be painted with different warm colors, giving each finger its own shade. Someone represents the base under the palm (feet) as a green lawn or a golden surface. After the paints have dried, the product can be safely varnished: a durable varnish for ceramics, which can be easily found in any construction department, will be ideal.

Self-hardening plastic product

No less colorful is a cast of children's arms and legs, made of self-hardening plastic with their own hands. The material is more resistant than dough or gypsum, and can be adjusted much more easily than its predecessors. You can buy such material in any art shop. The first step is to do the imprint of the limb: on the salt dough, it is worth extruding the pen and leaving the base to dry. Making an impression on the test will reduce the risk of allergies due to the contact of the child’s small hand and chemical composition the plastic itself, which is undoubtedly a plus.

When the cast of the baby’s arms and legs, made with your own hands, has dried up, you can start processing it. The first step will be smearing the impression vegetable oil This will help the plastic not stick to the dough. Do not pour a glass of fat on the cast, it is better to draw a wide brush or a cotton pad dipped in a substance over it.

Next stage

Next, you need to make molds from plastic. To do this, a weighty piece of plastic already worked out in the hands must be applied over the test base and carefully pressed through all the contours of the handle. The better the contact of the two layers occurs, the more natural the craft will look. If the plastic is fresh or stored strictly in a sealed bag, then working with the material is a pleasure. If there was air access, you will have to work on it in advance. While the dough dries, it is necessary to knead the plastic in your hands daily so that it disperses a little.

The final stage

After oil treatment, the plastic can be easily removed from the dough. Next, you need to cut off the excess. The finished handle (leg) must be supplemented with volume and allowed to dry. You can make a wreath with family palms. To do this, it is worth fashioning the parental palms and inserting a wire into the edges. So the material is well connected together and dries. After drying the casts of arms and legs made with your own hands, you can plunge into decoration. Having covered the stucco molding with acrylic paint of any color and varnish, go to the wreath.

Material for flowers can be selected in different textures. The brighter and more unusual the details are, the richer the whole exposure will look. Having processed each petal with a spark to fix its border, they should be fastened with a thread and a pebble in the form of a core. You can also make leaves in the form of an autumn palette, then the wreath will turn out bright and cheerful. The palms themselves should be placed in the center, connected with a wire with a circle of flowers. After that, it is better to paint the wire in a suitable tone so that it is lost in the general array. You can safely hang such a craft in the center of the photo mosaic on the wall or by the fireplace.

Gypsum products

More practical idea there will be another option for creating a cast of a child's hand, legs with your own hands. Gypsum is a fairly malleable material, but too heavy. Crafts from it are not very practical, it is necessary to allocate a separate place for them.

The first impression should be made on the same salt dough, and plaster should be used in subsequent work. For a pair of impressions, dilute 150 g of dry mix with a little water. It is worth remembering that different manufacturers indicate the approximate amount on their packages, since gypsum absorbs water in different ways over time. The finished mixture must have the density of homemade sour cream, so it will be easier to work with it.

Last step and freezing

To make plaster casts of arms and legs with your own hands, you need to act quickly: the test form should be carefully poured with plaster. It is worth moving the mold so that air bubbles do not remain in the thickness of the base, which can damage in the future. Next, the mold should be allowed to dry for at least a day.

Decoration

The finished cast, if there is a desire, can be beautifully designed. Paint is better to choose gold, silver or snow-white. It all depends on the overall harmony of the panel or picture.

Our mothers circled our hands and feet in childhood, so that in the children's album there would be a memory of what we were. Already at school, we circled them ourselves and gave them to each other.

Today you can make an imprint of the child's hand and foot with every fold on the skin. And your Romeo will be able to give his Juliet in kindergarten not just a picture, but a three-dimensional copy of his pen. In our age, you won’t surprise anyone with photographs, they shoot videos mobile phone, and casts of children's hands and feet in 3D format are really exclusive, which is impossible to buy, you can only order a master or make it yourself.

Godparents buy a gift certificate for this service so that an adult child will remember them with gratitude. Lovers (as in the "Avenue of Stars") and newlyweds order handprints on a stand with engraving. For the hero of the day, you can call a specialist at home, and organize a gift - a procedure as part of the holiday program.

Now it is fashionable to collect sculptural copies of the entire family and keep them as family heirlooms for posterity. Many people order accurate 3D sculptures of their hands.

Of course, such casts were invented a long time ago, but this service was expensive, and not everyone dared to take their crumbs across the city to the sculptor's workshop. Children grow rapidly, and I want to leave an extraordinary gift in memory of childhood. When your child becomes famous, these casts will be worth more than gold. Now many masters provide this service, but it is quite possible to do without on your own at home

Children's casts. Method one - on the sand

Tools and materials

Step-by-step instruction

  1. Sand is poured into a bowl (without tamping).
  2. Carefully in the center we make an imprint of the handle or foot of the child.
  3. Along the edges we lay out the selected decor for prints.
  4. Dilute alabaster to the consistency of sour cream (better cold water, as it seizes very quickly).
  5. In a thin stream, so as not to spoil the work, pour the solution onto the sand with a layer of 2 - 3 cm.
  6. After 15 minutes, when the alabaster completely hardens, carefully remove it from the mold.
  7. > We clean it from sand with a brush and cover it with paint, varnish, apply a commemorative inscription.

Materials of casts of children's hands and feet are very diverse. We got used to the sand, you can experiment with plasticine.

Method two - plasticine

Tools and materials

  • children's soft plasticine;
  • gypsum;
  • PVA glue;
  • decor material.

Step-by-step instruction

Method three - in the test

Tools and materials

  • wheat flour - 1 cup;
  • fine salt - half a glass;
  • vegetable oil or glue - 1 tbsp;
  • paints;
  • decor material.

Step-by-step instruction

For grandparents, this is the most desired gift that they will keep for a lifetime.

But no one canceled grandmother's fun and simple method - if there are hypoallergenic paints in the house, just give your child paper and paints - and you will have a lot of prints in five minutes.

If you have mastered simple ways from simple improvised materials, you can purchase a set for professionals.

Children grow up very quickly, and you need to have time to catch moments that will delight you all your life!

Sometimes there is a need to quickly and easily make a high-quality cast of something. We have neither the means nor the desire to buy special and sometimes very expensive materials, and then ingenuity and minimal knowledge in chemistry come to our aid. We will tell you how, from improvised means, to prepare a mass for taking a high-quality cast with a good degree of detail.

Impression weight:

To begin with, it should be clearly understood that casts and, accordingly, impression masses are diverse. For example, there are special impression masses for taking impressions from the human body - they are harmless (almost harmless), and there are impression masses for taking impressions from keys, etc. Try to use them for their intended purpose, the described recipe is suitable for inanimate, relatively solid objects , key chains, coins, medallions…

In order to make a mass for a cast, you will need only two ingredients: ordinary silicone sealant(I used clear silicone sealant for sewer pipes) and potato starch.

Figure #1 - Starch and Sealant

You need to mix starch and sealant one to one in a deep, convenient container (a disposable plastic cup will do). You simply pour starch into the container (you determine the amount yourself, depending on the need) and squeeze out the silicone there. Now take a spoon and begin to mix it all continuously. I warn you! The mass must be mixed very carefully. At first, the mixture is very sticky and viscous, but after about twenty minutes it starts to become empty, and becomes like dough (plasticine), while the silicone no longer sticks to hands or anything.

Figure No. 2 - The mass no longer sticks to the hands

Now you just have to apply your mixture to what you want to get a mold from, and wait until it hardens. The advantage of this method is that there is no need to use a release agent, as the starch prevents the silicone from sticking. And the mixture quickly hardens turning (I put it on the battery so it was ready in an hour) into a reusable rubber mold with which you can easily make plaster casts and other products.

The simplest and cheap way- print with any paints on paper. It is better to take finger or watercolor paints, apply them to a pen or a leg, and put an imprint on a landscape sheet. Then you can beautifully arrange the free space around the print. To prevent the leaf from fraying over time, it is better to laminate it, and only then put it in a frame.

Plasticine prints

There is another easy way to make an imprint: buy modeling mass or modern plasticine (one that dries itself in air) in any store. Choose the color you like the most. You need to take the mass and flatten it into desired shape, and then press well with a pen or a leg. Do not forget to make a hole for the ribbon, so that later you have something to hang your “home relic” on. Leave the workpiece overnight and it will dry.

Homemade salt dough print

This type of print making is more time consuming, but the result will be more interesting.

For the test we need: 1 cup flour, 1 cup salt, 2 tbsp. sunflower oil and 0.5 - 1 tbsp. water. Knead the dough. Let it lie down for half an hour, you can in the refrigerator.

  1. Knead the dough, roll it into a ball, then roll it out with a rolling pin, about 1.5 - 2 cm thick;
  2. Take the foil, place the dough cake on it and chill the dough in the refrigerator;
  3. Lubricate the baby's hand (leg) sunflower oil and press it into the dough;
  4. Do not forget to make a hole in the dough for the ribbon so that the finished "work of art" can be hung;
  5. If the print suits you, it should be left to dry for 2-3 weeks;
  6. After about a week, you can turn over by carefully removing the foil;
  7. When the print dries, paint it with acrylic paints.

Salt dough mold

This type of mold making is also quite painstaking. For it we need salty dough, gypsum, acrylic paint. We make the dough according to the recipe above.

Take a larger lump of dough so that the print is deep. On this lump of dough we print a handle or a leg. We take plaster. It is necessary to dilute gypsum in a ratio of 1/3 gypsum to 2/3 water. To begin with, we dilute a little gypsum and lubricate the contour with a brush and leave for 10 minutes so that the gypsum dries. Next, we prepare the second part of the plaster and fill the imprint to the brim. Let dry for 15 minutes.

When the plaster dries, it will be necessary to bend the soft dough. Do this very carefully so as not to damage the casts. The remaining pieces of dough on the casts must be carefully removed. Everything, now you can start coloring!

Casts of sand

Sand casts look very beautiful and creative. We will need: sand, plaster, frame.

  1. We take dry river sand and sift it through a sieve;
  2. Then the sand needs to be moistened, add a little water to it;
  3. We take a form (frame) and fill it with wet sand, then we make an imprint in it (spread your palm and press lightly on it);
  4. Then take plaster. It is necessary to dilute gypsum in the ratio: add 2/3 of water to 1/3 of gypsum;
  5. From above, fill the mold with gypsum and leave until it hardens;
  6. Shake off the remaining sand and your "sand print" is ready!

Casts from sets for creativity

If you do not want to spend a lot of time learning how to make casts, then get ready-made. With it, you can even make a child's fist. In such sets, everything is already included in the kit and you just have to follow the step-by-step instructions.
