Do-it-yourself mini greenhouse made of pvc pipes. Do-it-yourself greenhouse assembly from polypropylene pipes

PVC pipes have long been used for the manufacture of greenhouses and greenhouses, as this material is quite durable, flexible and reliable. You can make these products with your own hands, without resorting to the help of professionals. Both collapsible and stationary design allows you to grow your favorite vegetables when the temperature is below zero.

PVC pipes for building a greenhouse: pros and cons

Polyvinyl chloride pipes are an excellent and inexpensive material that is used to create greenhouses and greenhouses of various shapes and sizes. In order to build them, a large number of tools and special skills are not required, therefore this type of construction is available even for summer residents or owners of private houses with a small income.

Material Advantages

This material has large quantity advantages:

  • assembly and disassembly of the structure is quite fast;
  • the unassembled design does not take up much space;
  • the construction of a greenhouse does not require professional skills in working with the material;
  • light weight;
  • availability of materials, their low cost;
  • high degree of strength and stability of the finished structure;
  • long service life (more than 10 years);
  • the ability to create a greenhouse of any shape and size, monolithic structures;
  • resistance to temperature extremes and moisture, the formation of corrosion, the reproduction of fungus and mold;
  • environmental friendliness.

Disadvantages of PVC pipes and greenhouses from them

There are few disadvantages of greenhouses made of PVC pipes, but they still exist. For example, when installing a structure in regions where strong winds prevail, it may deform. Polyethylene coating is short-lived, and also has poor thermal insulation properties, so it will have to be changed every few years or purchase a more expensive material such as polycarbonate. In winter, it will be impossible to use such a design in the northern regions of the country.

There are several types of greenhouses from PVC pipes which you can do by hand.

  1. Arched structures with polyethylene or polycarbonate coating.
  2. Structures with shed roof attached to the main building.
  3. Greenhouses with gable roof with any type of coverage.

Greenhouses are very popular arch type, as they are easily and quickly erected, quickly dismantled if necessary.

Preparation for construction: drawings, dimensions, assembly diagrams

A greenhouse made of PVC pipes does not need a strong and expensive foundation, as it will be a lightweight structure that can be quickly disassembled. Therefore, the base can be made of wooden boards.

It is necessary to choose a suitable place on the site for placing the greenhouse, check the soil so that it does not sink under the weight of the future structure. Do not forget to remove excess debris and vegetation from the site, if necessary, remove part of the topsoil.

A dense polyethylene film (preferably reinforced) is most often used as a coating.

Arched greenhouse dimensions

This parameter is determined not only depending on the preferences of the owner, but also on the size of the material itself.

Usually PVC pipes are sold in standard sizes (3 and 6 m). Longer ones, when bent, form an arc of the correct shape. Thus, the width of the standard design is 3.7 m, the length is 9.8 m, and the height is 2.1 m.

The optimal pitch between pipes is 900–1000 mm.

Material selection

The quality of the product also depends on the material used:

What materials and tools are needed

For the manufacture of a standard greenhouse, it is necessary to prepare the following materials:

  • five-meter boards with a section of 2x6 cm - 4 pieces;
  • boards with a section of 2x6 cm, 3.7 m long - 2 pieces;
  • PVC pipes 6 m long - 19 pieces;
  • fittings 3 meters long (Ø10 mm) - 9 pieces;
  • PVC film (thickness 6 mm) - 6x15, 24 meters;
  • wooden slats (length 1.22 m) - 50 pieces;
  • nails or screws;
  • metal fasteners;
  • door hinges - 4 pieces;
  • door handles - 2 pieces.

Materials for the ends of the greenhouse:

  • timber 2x4 cm long 3.7 m for the frame;
  • 11’8 3/4” - 2 beams 3.6 m long;
  • 1’6” - 4 bars of 0.45m each;
  • 4’7” - 4 bars of 1.4m;
  • 5’7” - 4 bars of 1.7m;
  • 1’11 1/4” - 8 bars of 0.6m each;
  • 4’1/4” - 2 bars of 1.23m each;
  • 4 bars 1.5 m long;
  • 4 bars 1.2 m long.

Required tools:

  • a hammer;
  • Bulgarian;
  • electric screwdriver;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • electric saw;
  • building level;
  • roulette.

Do-it-yourself construction stages

Making a greenhouse with your own hands is very simple, you just need to follow the consistent instructions:

  1. For the construction of the base of the greenhouse, it is necessary to cut the reinforcement into 4 parts. You should get 36 identical segments 75 cm long. To fix the pipes, you will need 34 pieces of reinforcement. Cut two of them in half, resulting in 4 rods 37.5 cm long.
  2. Next, from boards measuring 2x6 cm, you need to make the base of a rectangular greenhouse measuring 3.7x9.8 m. Knock down the boards with nails or twist with self-tapping screws. Install the base on the site. Check the evenness of the corners (90°), hammer in a piece of reinforcement (37.5 cm) inside each of them to fasten the structure.
  3. Hammer 34 pieces of reinforcement at the same distance from each other (about 1 meter) along the long sides of the base. This should be done in such a way that the length of the rods on the surface is about 35–40 cm.
  4. On the reinforcement bars driven in from both sides, put PVC pipes alternately, bending them into the correct arc. You should get an almost finished frame of the greenhouse.
  5. Secure pipes with metal plates wooden base. For this, screws and a screwdriver are used.
  6. In order to make the end part of the greenhouse, it is necessary to make a frame of bars. Install them in the frame of the structure, secure with screws.
  7. Cut 4 pieces of 70 cm from the timber with a hacksaw. Saw one end of each of them at an angle of 45 °. They are necessary to strengthen the ends of the greenhouse. Fasten the frame of the side part to the base.
  8. After the frame is assembled, it is necessary to make a stiffener at the top of the structure. To do this, fasten 2 pipes with a special plastic connector, cut off the excess so that you get a total length of 9.8 m. Attach a pipe to the top of the frame in the center plastic ties to each of the 17 arcs.
  9. Cover the pipe frame with a dense polyethylene film with an overlap in the lower part. Then, along one of the long sides, firmly fix it with pieces of wooden slats.
  10. Pull it with a little effort on the frame, fix it on the other side. It is better to start doing this from the center, and then move on to the ends.
  11. On the end parts of the frame, the film must be pulled well down. Nail her to the ground wooden slats. In the place where the door will be, you need to cut out a square, leaving 5–10 cm allowances for attaching the frame. Carefully wrap the film behind the opening, secure with nails or self-tapping screws inside the greenhouse.
  12. Before installing the doors, it is necessary to carefully check the actual dimensions of the opening so that it fits exactly in size. For its device, you need to cut bars with a section of 2x4 cm of different sizes (4 pieces each, 1.5 m and 1.2 m long). Knock down two frames from them, fix the beam diagonally for greater structural rigidity. Screw the door hinges to the opening with self-tapping screws.
  13. The remaining film can be used for doors. To do this, pull it over two frames, then also attach it with wooden slats. Screw on the handles and hinges. Put the doors on the prepared fasteners, check the evenness of the installation so that there are no distortions and large gaps.

The second option for the device of the ends of the greenhouse

There is another way to make the ends of the structure:

If you are making a greenhouse for the first time, it is recommended to heed the advice of experts:

  1. In order for the greenhouse to be effective, it is necessary to choose a place on the site with the maximum number of sun rays. It is also important to consider what crops will be grown, to inquire about the conditions necessary for rapid growth.
  2. For the construction of an arched structure, it is best to choose flexible PVC pipes.
  3. It is best to stretch the plastic film on the frame of the greenhouse in the warm season.
  4. If it is too hot outside, then the greenhouse doors should be kept open to ventilate the room. Otherwise, condensation will collect under the film, turning into steam.
  5. In the northern regions of the country, it is best to remove polyethylene for the winter, since during heavy snowfalls it can stretch or tear. In addition, snow will reliably protect the soil from deep freezing, as a result of which all useful material and moisture.
  6. If the film remains for the winter, then it is necessary to put strong supports that will not allow the structure to fall.
  7. Instead of a plastic film to cover the frame, you can buy more modern and reliable materials, for example, lutrasil, agrospan, reinforced or bubble film.
  8. Light stabilized or reinforced polypropylene is one of the the best coatings because it does not deform under the influence of ultraviolet rays.
  9. It is recommended to cover the area under the greenhouse with a waterproofing film, on which then pour special soil with fertilizer. Thus, plants can be protected from external influences and protected from pests.
  10. If the base is made of concrete, then it will be possible to grow seedlings in boxes.
  11. It must be remembered that the service life of PVC pipes in the open air is significantly reduced (up to 15–20 years).
  12. All wooden elements greenhouses must be well treated with antiseptic agents so that they are not exposed to fungi and mold.

Video: how to quickly build a greenhouse from PVC pipes

A greenhouse made of lightweight PVC pipes will allow you to always have a maximum of fresh vegetables and herbs on your table. The cost of building such a structure will be minimal, and the degree of its efficiency will be maximum. Having bought some plastic pipes, wooden planks and plastic film in one or two days, you can independently build a convenient and reliable greenhouse on your own suburban area.

Since the frame of this type of greenhouse is based on plastic pipes, the properties of the entire structure will largely depend on the characteristics of these pipes. Of the positive points, the following is noted:

  • expenses for building a greenhouse minimal, because the cheapest pipes are suitable for these purposes;
  • simplicity of design and low weight allows you to quickly and effortlessly mount the greenhouse and disassemble it for storage;
  • managing the microclimate in a homemade greenhouse is as simple as in the factory version;
  • there is a possibility create greenhouses of any size and optimal configuration;
  • the service life of such structures is very long, since the plastic does not corrode, does not rot and is not destroyed by insects.

However, the small weight of the structure creates some difficulties in operation:

  • there is a risk of destruction by wind;
  • Do not use ordinary glass.

ATTENTION! Therefore, even at the design stage, one should choose the most wind-protected locations and abandon heavy covering mats.

rials.

For what?

Functionality largely depends on the presence of a heating system. If it is available, then the greenhouse is classified as warm, used for the following purposes:

  • storage and protection of thermophilic plants. Before the onset of frost, they are dug out of open ground, transplanted into boxes and placed in a greenhouse;
  • spring seedling preparation almost any kind of plants grown on open ground. Restrictions can arise only because of the mutual intolerance of certain species;
  • germination of cuttings;
  • growing early plants from seeds.

IMPORTANT! When choosing a set of plants for planting, one should take into account not only the possibility of their joint cultivation, but also the transmission through the soil of characteristic diseases from plants from the last season.

A cold greenhouse allows gardeners to perform the following procedures:

  • winter storage of plants sensitive to severe frosts;
  • forcing bulbs;
  • hardening before planting in open ground.

AT winter time an unheated greenhouse should still check for soil moisture and temperature level. In addition, with insufficient effective ventilation putrefactive processes can develop on the soil and plants.

Manufacturing technology

The answer to the question: How to make a greenhouse out of plastic pipes with your own hands? - not so complicated.
Before proceeding directly to assembly makeshift greenhouse based polypropylene pipes, it is worth deciding on the type of covering material. From this moment will depend on the choice of the optimal diameter of the pipes.

In gardening for closed beds, the most commonly used types are:

  • agrofibre, which protects well from UV radiation and creates an optimal balance of temperature and humidity;
  • cellular polycarbonate, a very warm and durable material, the only drawback of which is the high price;
  • PVC film, elastic and durable, but collapsing in severe frost;
  • polyethylene film, easy to install, cheap and common material. It is polyethylene film that is most often used as a covering material for greenhouses. Its only drawback is its low physical strength;
  • reinforced film- it can last several years, but it costs accordingly.

Actually, the technology of arranging a greenhouse from plastic pipes with your own hands includes several stages, and this can be seen in the photo accompanying the text.

1. Material preparation

The amount of materials must correspond to the estimated size of the building. At the same time, it is not necessary to purchase everything new; for the frame, the sections of pipes and boards remaining after the repair will also fit perfectly. In most cases, you will need the following set:

  • boards with a section of approximately 20 × 120 mm, as well as their trimming to strengthen the corners;
  • pieces of metal fittings 500-800 mm long;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • fasteners for plastic pipes (clamps);
  • scotch;
  • film;
  • plastic pipes.

The pipe diameter can be any. However, for structures with a height of more than one and a half meters, it is advisable to take stronger pipes with a diameter of 20 mm.
2. Arrangement of the base of the greenhouse

The general fencing of the beds will serve as the basis. It is made from boards fastened with self-tapping screws into a rectangle.

Since the screws will be screwed at an angle, then get rid of their protruding hats it will be possible if you pre-drill recesses for them on the outside of the boards.

IMPORTANT! There are moles and other pests in the soil on the site, then it makes sense to put a frequent metal mesh under the frame of the greenhouse.

3. Along the long sides outside the base of the greenhouse, close to the boards at a distance of 40-60 cm from each other, pieces of reinforcement are stuck into the ground. 300-350 mm of the rod should remain above the ground. If fasteners for pipes (clamps) are available, then at this moment they should be fixed on the outer sides of the frame boards at the level of the pins stuck into the ground.

4. A plastic pipe is put on the pin with one end, bent and put on the pin with the other end from the opposite side.

5. Pipes are fixed in pre-installed clamps. There is also a cheaper option for attaching pipes to the greenhouse base boards. To do this, after installing the frame of pipes, it is attracted to the boards by segments of the metal mounting profile.

6. The resulting frame is closed with a covering material. The simplest fixative for the film can be pieces of boards laid out on top of the film overlaps on the ground along the perimeter of the structure. Despite the simplicity of such a solution, it is quite practical, because. allows you to easily open the desired side of the greenhouse for ventilation.

If desired, you can arrange a doorway at the end of the greenhouse. The basis for it can be wooden bars of a small section, installed vertically.

Other but no more difficult option making a greenhouse with your own hands from plastic pipes you can see in this video:

How to strengthen a greenhouse?

The need to strengthen the structure of the greenhouse arises before the onset of winter. The snow settling on the surface of the film will thaw and freeze with a very heavy crust. In addition to the timely cleaning of this snow, you can carry out the following activities:

  • - installation of props from a wooden beam inside the greenhouse. Supports can be placed both in the longitudinal and in the transverse direction;
  • - replace the covering material with a denser and more durable one;
  • - add additional arcs of plastic pipes to the frame.

In general, a plastic pipe greenhouse is a very easy way to expand your agricultural capabilities. At the same time, the simplicity of the design allows you to install and remove such a structure as soon as necessary, without serious physical and material costs.

  • The protective layer on which the inscriptions are applied must be located on the outside of the greenhouse.
  • To obtain the most durable structure, be sure (!) Pay attention to the location of the "honeycombs" of polycarbonate - they should only go vertically, in inclined structures - parallel to the slope.
  • When creating arches, keep in mind that polycarbonate sheets bend only in one direction - in length, that is, along the line of stiffeners.
  • The joints of the sheets should fall on the center of the frame rack, connect the sheets only in this way.
  • They cut this type of plastic with a construction knife, electric jigsaw, grinder. You can also use a hacksaw or a circular saw.
  • For a strong connection of sheets to each other, special plastic profiles. Manufacturers do not recommend overlapping polycarbonate. In practice, when making a polycarbonate greenhouse with your own hands, it is not always possible to cut and fit sheets perfectly. Some craftsmen generally manage to do without connecting profiles, placing overlapping polycarbonate. The most important thing is that the junction must necessarily fall on the center of the rack, and not sag in the air. Moreover, even with perfect installation under the pressure of snow, the sheet can be squeezed out of the profile. In the case of overlap, this does not happen.
  • It is undesirable to use a powerful drill for screwing in self-tapping screws - it will overtighten fasteners and often slip off during operation. It is better to work with a conventional screwdriver. Polycarbonate is drilled at low speed with little effort. Next, turn off the tool, insert the screws and continue to work.
  • The distance between the screwed screws is 25-70 cm. It all depends on the type of frame and the expected snow and wind load.
  • When assembling polycarbonate structures, riveting is sometimes used instead of self-tapping screws. However, it will be more difficult to dismantle the greenhouse or replace the damaged sheet in this case.
  • When the temperature changes, the plastic is able to change dimensions. When butt-joining between sheets, a small space of a couple of millimeters in size is necessarily left - a technological gap. Otherwise, cracks will form at the junction. For the same reason, the size of the holes for the fasteners is made a little larger. To prevent the plastic from cracking, do not twist them all the way.
  • To compensate for expansion and protection from cold bridges, it is recommended to use special thermal washers for polycarbonate (self-tapping screws are purchased separately). It is allowed to use EPDM roofing screws equipped with a gasket or standard for metal with a rubber thermal washer, in which the thread has a small pitch.

In almost every summer cottage, the owners arrange a greenhouse or greenhouse, and most prefer to do it with their own hands. Previously, various natural materials were used - wood, metal, glass, and today plastic is increasingly being introduced into the yards of private owners. A greenhouse made of plastic pipes is modern, simple, convenient, durable and cheap. Moreover, she is going to, as from a Lego constructor: with her own hands and with virtually no tools.

A greenhouse made of plastic pipes is becoming more and more popular, because it has a number of undeniable advantages. It is easy to make, the assembly itself will take only a few hours, you don’t need to be a professional for this, just decide on the dimensions, make a drawing, buy and bring necessary materials. Since plastic pipes are light in weight, they do not need much physical strength to transport, load and unload, assemble a greenhouse or greenhouse. Therefore, you do not need to attract many people to work.

Any structures made of PVC pipes (polyvinyl chloride) or HDPE (polyethylene low pressure) are easy to assemble and dismantle, which is very convenient in the country. Often they make greenhouses for seasonal use, covered with plastic wrap: the owners use them all year round, after operation they remove the film, disassemble the frame, clean it for the winter, and collect it again in the spring. Assembling the structure with his own hands, the summer resident wants not only to save money, but also to realize own desires, plastic elements are best suited for this.

Perhaps the most important advantage of plastic pipes compared to other materials used is the absence of their interaction with water, earth, air - PVC and HDPE do not rust, do not mold, do not rot, do not emit any harmful substances either into the air or into earth. This explains the durability of the material - in itself important quality. And environmental friendliness agriculture is of course welcome.

What are greenhouses made of PVC pipes

Greenhouses most often do:

  • arched;
  • gable;
  • lean-to.

For do-it-yourself arched greenhouses made of PVC pipes, they knock down a box of boards or wooden beams. Pipes are put on metal, less often wooden pins (pegs), which are securely fixed in the ground, 30-40 cm of the pin should remain on top, which freely enters the pipe . If such a greenhouse (greenhouse) is covered with plastic wrap, then the ends are usually covered with plywood, wood board or plastic, in which doors and vents are made for ventilation. If the arched structure is covered with polycarbonate, then the end sides are also made from it.

Single-pitched and double-pitched greenhouses are covered with both film and polycarbonate. Such a heavy, fragile and expensive material as glass is less and less used for greenhouses and greenhouses in our summer cottages, which is not surprising.
Pipe structures are usually installed on a foundation or rigid base to add rigidity and stability to them due to the lightness of the material.

How to build a flexible pipe greenhouse

Arched greenhouses and greenhouses are usually made by hand from flexible pipes with a diameter of at least 20 mm. In order to build such a greenhouse, you need to take:

  • metal pins with a diameter of 10-12 mm and a length of 50-75 cm;
  • plastic pipe with walls 3 mm thick;
  • plastic clamps for connection;
  • aluminum fasteners to attach the arches to the wooden frame;
  • polyethylene film for coating;
  • planks to help secure the film.

The amount of materials must be accurately calculated according to the drawing, which will inevitably have to be done if we want to assemble the structure with our own hands. Still have to buy wooden beam for door frames, vents, hinges for hanging opening doors, nails, locks, screws. At the most convenient place for the greenhouse, you need to mark its position, drive metal rods into the ground with a sledgehammer along the line of long walls, leaving 30-40 cm outside.

Now you need to put the pipe on the opposite pins and attach it to the wooden frame with metal brackets. This is how all arches are performed, and the more often they are located, the more stable the whole structure will be. If the frame is made under polycarbonate, then the step is commensurate with the size of the sheet, polycarbonate will make the greenhouse (greenhouse) heavier, more stable and simply tougher. And if the coating is supposed to be from a film, then the more often the step, the more stable the greenhouse, the less polyethylene will walk, and, therefore, it will be used longer.

Now you need to assemble the end walls, insert doorways, vents, additional fragments of wood for frame rigidity. After that, the upper screed of the arched structure is installed. It runs along the highest points of all arches, is attached to them with polymer clamps.

The finished frame is covered with a film, placing it in such a way that pieces of the same length remain from the ends. They fix it with planks, press the film with them and nail them to a wooden frame on one long side. Moreover, you need to start from the middle, and not from the corners. After the film is fixed on one side, it is evenly straightened and the same is done on the other long side: the planks are nailed, starting from the middle and moving towards the corners.

At the ends, the film is collected in folds and nailed. Doors and vents pre-covered with film are hung. If the ends are also film, then the film under the doors and vents is cut out so that there is enough left to fix it on the beam. it simple circuit do-it-yourself construction of an inexpensive greenhouse (or greenhouse) using plastic pipes. Based on it, you can create something of your own, more aesthetic, artsy or suitable for a particular area.

Some do not use boards to fix polyethylene, instead they take a furniture stapler. Some people add ribs at the ends for rigidity, and many make the ends of an opaque but rigid material. That is the beauty of building something with your own hands - you can give free rein to your imagination and choose the most acceptable from the many options. Flexible plastic pipes in this case are the most suitable material.

Use of rigid pipes

Rigid plastic pipes are usually used for the construction of shed, wall and gable greenhouses. Using fittings, you can assemble the frame without gluing, which is convenient for greenhouses used temporarily. Rigid pipes are connected with polymer tees or couplings, covered with plastic wrap or polycarbonate - all options are good. The only thing that cannot be done when using plastic pipes is glazing. It is not advisable to use glass in a frame made of PVC or HDPE pipes.

Video "Description of the assembly of greenhouses and PVC pipes"

The device of an inexpensive and easy-to-execute greenhouse on the site is the dream of any summer resident or owner country house. Today, this is possible thanks to the construction of a greenhouse made of PVC pipes. The structure turns out to be reliable and durable, which is why it is gaining more and more popularity among summer residents.

Features of greenhouses and greenhouses made of PVC pipes

Growing vegetables indoors is becoming more and more popular. The designs of greenhouses and greenhouses are very diverse, and often they are made from improvised materials left over from building a house. One such material is PVC pipes. This material is relatively cheap, and working with it does not require special skills, which allows you to install greenhouses with your own hands.

To build a greenhouse from PVC pipes, you do not need special tools and special skills, which means that this type of construction is available for self construction even for summer residents with a small income

Pros and cons of PVC pipes as a material for a greenhouse

The positive aspects of using such material are:

The only and main disadvantage of using PVC pipes for building greenhouses is that the construction is quite light. In areas with strong winds, it needs reliable reinforcement at the installation site. In this case, it is better to use polycarbonate as a cover for the greenhouse, as it is more reliable and durable than the film. The material is noticeably more expensive, but all costs pay off with a long service life.

Greenhouses that are not planned to be dismantled for the winter are best installed on a foundation, which will ensure the strength and durability of the structure. Polycarbonate is convenient to transport to any distance; it is fire resistant, resistant to many chemical elements and has excellent thermal insulation. The dome design of the greenhouse promotes better penetration sunlight For year-round cultivation of flowers, a winter greenhouse will be required, which will be equipped with a special heating system. Building a house allows maximum use of the planting area, even tall plants can be planted along the walls Warm air in a tent structure, it accumulates under the roof and is removed thanks to the windows, which ensures better ventilation for plants Due to the location next to the heated room, more comfortable conditions for plant growth are created. Plastic is much more resistant to decay and corrosion than, for example, wood or metal, the properties of this material make it possible to dispense with the mandatory treatment of product elements with protective substances

Do-it-yourself greenhouse construction from PVC pipes

Preparatory work for the installation of a greenhouse on the site must begin with the development of a draft design. In this case, the following circumstances must be taken into account:

  1. Think over a method of attaching the structure to the ground, taking into account the climatic features of the area, especially the direction and strength of the prevailing winds.
  2. Develop ways to connect individual parts using standard fittings for the selected type and size of pipes.
  3. Calculate the need for basic materials for load-bearing structure and the supporting part of the greenhouse.
  4. Calculate the need for covering material and fasteners.
  5. Determine the necessary tools and fixtures.
  6. Buy everything you need.
  7. Prepare all parts for assembly, guided by the project.

PVC is much cheaper than metal and high-quality wood, and in terms of functionality it is not inferior to them.

Material selection

The range of materials used is small:

  1. For the frame - PVC pipes with a diameter of 25 millimeters with a wall of at least 4.2 millimeters.
  2. Reinforcing steel bars with a diameter of 12–14 millimeters at the rate of 160–170 centimeters for each arc.
  3. Perforated metal strip with a width of 40 mm.
  4. Edged board made of coniferous species with dimensions of 40x100 millimeters, the quantity is determined based on the selected dimensions of the greenhouse.
  5. Polyethylene film with a thickness of at least 200 microns, it is better to use reinforced material.
  6. Wooden planks from a board 15–20 mm wide 60, length - at the place of application - for attaching the film to the frame of the end walls.
  7. Self-tapping screws with a diameter of 5 millimeters for fixing arcs, 60 long - at the rate of 4 pieces per arc.
  8. Wooden bars for the manufacture of the end wall frame 40x40 mm in size, cut out at the installation site.
  9. Antiseptics and fire-prevention impregnation for wooden parts.
  10. Fittings for pipes according to the project.
  11. Door hinges - 4 pieces (for two doors).
  12. Door handles - 4 pcs.

Calculation of the dimensions of the greenhouse

To calculate the materials, you should determine the size of the greenhouse itself. Usually in the greenhouse there are two beds with a passage between them. The width of the beds is 0.8–1.1 meters. The width of the passage should allow you to walk freely with buckets and other garden tools, including a wheelbarrow. The path should be made 0.6–0.8 meters wide. Thus, the width of the greenhouse will be 2.2–3 meters.

The length of the greenhouse depends on the needs of the owner and on vegetable crops that are planned to be grown.

Usually the length of the greenhouse is from three to six meters. A greenhouse of shorter length will be useless, and a larger one will require more durable materials for execution.

The design must be selected with a minimum number of docking nodes, as they significantly weaken the stability

The height of the greenhouse should allow you to move freely around it. And also you need to take into account that at least 50 cm of free space should remain above the plants.

Another important parameter is the length of the PVC pipe arc.

Table: arc length for standard greenhouse sizes

1.8 m2.0 m2.2 m2.4 m
2.2 m3,1 3,5 3,8 4,1
2.4 m3,4 3,8 4,1 4,5
2.6 m3,7 4,1 4,5 4,9
2.8 m4,0 4,4 4,8 5,3
3.0 m4,2 4,7 5,2 5,7

If the dimensions of the greenhouse are not standard, then the length of the arc is calculated by the formula: L = 3.14 * (h + B / 2) / 2. Where B is the width of the greenhouse, h is the height, L is the length of the arc.

Base installation

The frame of the greenhouse is usually mounted on wooden frames. For their manufacture, you need a board made of coniferous wood measuring 100x40 millimeters. The quantity depends on the selected dimensions of the greenhouse. Splicing of the bar along the length is allowed with frame sizes of more than six meters.

A coniferous board measuring 40x100 is suitable for the support frame of the greenhouse

Steps for installing a wooden base:

  1. The boards are laid out at the installation site, connected at the corners into a spike. Further, the dimensions of the quadrangle are carefully measured, the diagonals are aligned so that the structure does not have distortions. After that, an additional fastening is installed using galvanized steel corners with self-tapping screws. They are located on the inner surface of the corner. The final fixation of the support frame is carried out with four pins driven into the ground at the corners close to the base. The length of the pins should be 45–50 centimeters, the material is corrugated reinforcing steel with a diameter of 12 millimeters.
  2. An obligatory part of the base is pins made of reinforcing steel with a length of about 75 centimeters and a diameter of 12-14 millimeters. The size is specified from the condition of use for PVC pipe arcs standard size 25x4.2 mm, the inner hole of which, respectively, is 16.6 mm.
  3. The pins are immersed in the ground in such a way that an end 35-40 centimeters high sticks out of the ground, and the distance to the support board is 4-5 millimeters. The number of pins should be equal to twice the number of arcs according to the project. The distance between them should be at least a meter.

The length of the reinforcing bars must be at least 75 centimeters

Installation of the greenhouse frame

Frame assembly procedure:

  1. Each piece of pipe intended for arcs is put on a pin on both sides of the base. The bottom end of the pipe should be level with the bottom edge of the base board.
  2. Fastening is made to it using a metal strip and self-tapping screws. After installing the last arc, the supporting frame can be considered ready. It remains only to install the longitudinal stiffeners. They are mounted between each arc along the entire length of the greenhouse.
  3. One rib is made from a single piece of pipe and is installed along the upper axis of the dome. Fastening is done with construction clamps. The other two edges can be installed in the middle of the arcs on each side.

The described algorithm is valid for a tunnel greenhouse. If selected gable design, all connections can be made using standard fittings.

It is better to buy pipes and fittings in a set - in this case, you can not be afraid that their diameter will not match

End walls

For end walls, use frame structures made from a wooden block measuring 40x40 millimeters. As a covering material, use one of the options:

  • polyethylene film;
  • cellular polycarbonate 4 or 6 millimeters thick;
  • drywall waterproof;
  • waterproof plywood, as well as any other sheet material with waterproof properties.

To install the door you need to make door frame with an opening of at least 90 centimeters so that a garden wheelbarrow passes through it. The vestibule itself is made rectangular in shape with one jumper in the middle. Inside each opening, you need to install jibs to give the structure rigidity. The canvas is made from the same material as the wall. The door must be hung on standard hinges and equipped with two handles from different sides. It is more convenient to equip doors on both end walls. In addition to the door, vents must be installed on the end walls of large greenhouses.

The door must correspond to the dimensions of the greenhouse structure and be convenient for passage.

To protect the greenhouse from the penetration of pests from the outside, it is advisable to install a mosquito net on the opening openings. On the door - in the form of a light vestibule, on the windows - tightly blocking the opening.

Greenhouse installation instructions

The technology for erecting such a structure is extremely simple, but requires rigorous sequential execution. In practice, it looks like this:

  1. We install the support base under the frame. We fix the frame on the ground surface, ensuring the invariability of its shape along the horizon. After installing the pins, we check the levelness of the frame and, if necessary, align it using linings and counter wedges. The gap between the soil and the board must subsequently be eliminated by adding earth.

    It is necessary to securely fix the greenhouse frame with metal pins at the inner corners of the frame

  2. We drive metal pins into the ground along the perimeter of the support frame, using a sledgehammer for this. After diving to the desired depth, we remove the burrs formed on the upper end and dull the sharp edges so that they do not subsequently damage the plastic pipe from the inside.

    It is advisable to wrap the reinforcement with tape so that it does not travel inside the PVC pipes.

  3. We sprinkle sand around the perimeter of the frame, finally fixing it.

    When fixing the frame with sand, you can immediately lay out the paths and fences for the beds

  4. Pre-prepared pipes for the frame arcs are simply put on the pins with end holes. The ends of the pipes should be at the level of the bottom edge of the board.

    Instead of reinforcing pins, you can use special metal plates with pegs that are attached to the base of the greenhouse with self-tapping screws

  5. We fix the pipes to the base with a steel tape or a strip with holes for fastening. But it is more reliable to use loops made from a standard strip 4 mm thick. Most likely, it will not be possible to purchase such parts in the factory version, so they need to be made independently with anti-corrosion surface treatment. Installation is carried out using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws with a diameter of at least 5 millimeters.

    Reliability of fastening is ensured by a tight grip of the pipe with a strip

  6. Next, we make the frames of the end walls of the greenhouse, using for this wooden bars section 40x40 millimeters. They are not assembled separately, but are made on site with simultaneous binding to the extreme arc of the frame. Assembly is best done using self-tapping screws, not nails.

    End walls are mounted on site, not separately

  7. We fix the struts of the end walls of the greenhouse to PVC arcs using a hole at the end of the bar. The hole must exactly repeat the diameter and shape of the pipe.

    The hole for the arc on the extreme end strips is made under a slope, you need to accurately measure the angle of the arc slope, draw it on the edges of the bars and mark the place of the cut

  8. The verticality of the end wall is provided by jibs and controlled by a plumb line. This operation is intended only for precise installation, force strengthening with wind braces is carried out after installation is completed.

    The use of a jib ensures the geometry of the frame during installation

  9. Upon completion of the assembly of the frame of the end walls, we install the upper stiffener. It is made from the same PVC pipe. If necessary, on long greenhouses, you need to connect several products with a standard coupling from a set of fittings. We fix the stiffener to the intermediate arches with plastic construction clamps. At each intersection, we install two such knittings crosswise.

    For the reliability and strength of the structure, it is necessary to fasten the pipes with construction clamps

  10. One stiffener for such a design is clearly not enough, especially in areas with strong winds. Therefore, between each arc at a height of about 1.3–1.5 meters, we install additional fastening elements. They can consist of one long part, but it is better to use cut parts from the same pipe. The connection of the thrust elements with the arcs of the frame is made with special connecting parts made of thermoplastic with a wall thickness of 3 mm.

    A wooden plank with a holding profile for covering material can be attached to PVC pipes at a distance of about 50 cm from the ground. This will make it possible to ventilate the greenhouse from below.

  11. Separately, we assemble the door, which we plant on hinges.

    As a door, you can use wooden frames from old windows, but instead of glass, it is better to stretch the film or sheathe the frame with polycarbonate sheets

  12. We fix the film with wooden planks using nails 3.5x50 mm. The film is attached with a longitudinal stretch along the length on one side of the frame to the support frame, after which the operation is repeated along the opposite edge. The tension in this case should not be excessive. The distance between the nails should be 15-20 centimeters.

    Film fastening should be done with a slight sag

  13. The installation of the film on the end walls is done last. It is no different from the main shelter. We attach the film with the help of planks to all elements of the wall frame from the outside, cut off the excess.

    OSB boards are easy to install and affordable

Features of the use of polycarbonate as a coating

The execution of the finishing coating from this material has some features in terms of installation technology. For example:

  1. The distance between adjacent arcs in the frame must correspond to the width of the polycarbonate sheet, which, in the standard version, is 2.1 meters. That is, the axes of the arcs should be at a distance of one meter from each other.
  2. Considering that it is impossible to fix polycarbonate to the arcs, it must be installed using metal ties across the frame. Therefore, the sheets are stacked with an overlap of 10 centimeters. In the place of overlap, a screed is installed.
  3. The multiplicity of length options for such a greenhouse is 2 meters, otherwise one sheet will need to be cut along. However, this is not so scary, because the trim can be used to seal the end walls and arrange doors and vents.

In polycarbonate, you need to drill holes larger than the diameter of the self-tapping screws by 1.5–3 mm. This will create an expansion gap, which, when the sheet expands, will prevent the greenhouse from getting damaged and leave the polycarbonate intact.

It is necessary to note several features when installing a greenhouse that will be useful to beginners:

  1. To install a greenhouse, you need to choose the most illuminated place on the site, not obscured by bushes and trees.
  2. For the first greenhouse, it is better to choose a design with PVC pipes, as the simplest and most affordable.
  3. The installation of the film coating should be done in warm weather literally 5-7 days before planting.
  4. When the weather is hot, the doors and windows in the greenhouse should be opened for ventilation. High temperature combined with high humidity harmful to most plants.
  5. In areas with heavy snow, it is better to remove the film from the greenhouse for the winter. This will help to avoid deep freezing of the soil, keeping beneficial microorganisms and moisture in the soil.
  6. For the winter in a greenhouse with an unremoved film, you need to install supports under the frame.
  7. The polyethylene film can be replaced with more modern materials- bubble or reinforced film, as well as agrospan coating.
  8. It is necessary to remove the soil layer from the greenhouse and cover the surface with a waterproofing film. This will get rid of weeds and pests in the greenhouse. The imported and poured fertile soil will give an excellent harvest.
  9. On a concrete foundation, such a greenhouse can also be used for growing seedlings.
  10. Particular attention must be paid protective coatings for wood. It is better to cover the parts that come into contact with the ground with bituminous mastic, for the rest, any means are suitable, starting from ordinary drying oil.

Using PVC pipes, it is possible to build various forms of indoor greenhouses, from seedling boxes to conservatories. In any case, these devices will be relatively inexpensive and effective.

By growing vegetables in a greenhouse, you will be able to harvest much earlier than when harvested in a conventional garden.

A greenhouse of lightweight construction made of PVC pipes is quite capable of providing the owner with fresh, environmentally friendly vegetables and helping to grow good seedlings for open ground on the site. Due to the ease of construction and the low cost of the materials used, greenhouses made of PVC pipes have become quite popular among summer residents.
