With the help of this technique, large areas or separate areas are decorated, for example, near a tap, sinks. You can pebble the podium in the bathroom or make a decorative canvas on the wall - as fantasy tells.

You can talk about design canons for a long time, but every day the existing canons become less and less stable. Aesthetics and harmony, balance, colors, materials, brought together in order to get such a long-awaited result are the essence of your knowledge, practice and self-development. My motto is to learn, see, touch something new every day, and I am sure that this is the only way to keep the right course in “high design”.

Pebbles are small pebbles that, under the influence of water, acquire a smooth, rounded shape. This allows it to be actively used in surface finishing, as well as bathroom decor.

Among the advantages should be noted low porosity, moisture resistance, as well as the widest color palette from white to deep grey-black. Pebbles successfully coexist with tiles, mosaics and wood.

The trends of the latest interior exhibitions show a clear focus of design towards nature. This concerns not only the issue of environmental friendliness of materials, but also shapes and shades.

Pebbles are far from a new decorative element, not so long ago it was actively used in bio-fireplaces, today plain pebbles have migrated to the bathroom and help create an interior in an oriental, nautical style, and even country.

Pebble bathroom designs

Jungle under the starry sky

Do you dream of a bathroom with a real waterfall, a window into an exotic forest, a starry sky above your head and cool pebbles under your feet? Do you think that this is possible only in a SPA-salon somewhere across the ocean? You are wrong, and I will prove it to you now.

So, I got to work a bathroom in a private house, initially divided into two parts: a tiny shower room and a large sauna, which modestly served as a pantry. The entire area of the room was upholstered with classic clapboard. Where did the jungle come from?

The concept of the project was supposed to show a different view on such concepts as "naturalness" and "naturalness". After all, not everything is limited to natural colors and natural materials. The main style, you guessed it, is eco-style.

The ideal solution for a private house could be glass partitions instead of walls, but in this case such a plan could not be realized. To make the walls as invisible as possible, I painted them with a moisture-resistant paint of a complex graphite-chocolate shade.

I gave up the classic tiles, since the latter makes the walls too visible.

The center of the interior was a waterfall. Yes, yes, the real one, not his image. Water flows down the glass, falling down, again returning to the stones.

To give power to the waterfall, it was decided to use a photo print finish. So, an image of the jungle appeared on the wall with a path leading deeper and deeper into the forest.

To make "nature" seem more, I used mirror surfaces near the wall with a photo print.

Natural sea pebbles were used for the flooring, which goes well with the stones lying on the parapet and the stone path leading into the jungle.

It was possible to visually increase the area of the room through the use of an image with a perspective. In our case, this is the jungle, but you can choose the ocean or mountains, which, by the way, can be very successfully combined with a pebble floor.

In order not to violate the naturalness of the interior, all plumbing is made in the form of boulders, yes, yes, including the toilet. There are no holes for the mixer in the "stone", water comes directly from the wall.

Most accessories are made from natural fibers such as jute and sisal.

The next question is location. household appliances. Washing machine went to the laundry room, which is adjacent to the bathroom and hidden behind a yellow door. The olive-canary color does not violate the unity of the "jungle" and goes well with the walls.

The glossy canvas was not chosen by chance, it also works to reflect light and visually expand the space.

The classic design of the chrome radiator was replaced with a gray-brown battery, which was completely lost in the "jungle".

"Here would wooden bath”, I thought, but its price is so undemocratic that I had to look for an alternative. And yes, I found it. The handmade bath looks like the surface of a parquet, as it is assembled from individual planks and covered with a polymer composition that is not afraid of moisture.

In the interior used:

  • paint - Belinka;
  • floor mixer - Jacob Delafon, Stillness;
  • spot light - Lightstar;
  • vanity cabinet - Villeroy & Boch;
  • toilet bowl - Pure Stone;
  • a cabinet above the sink - from the "Furniture Design Laboratory";
  • sink - Villeroy & Boch;
  • door - Casali, Pineapple C.

Gardens in the shower

Another example of an eco-interior using pebbles, live plants and natural wood in wall decoration.

It is fair to say that this bathroom was lucky with the area, as much as 20 square meters turned into an oasis of nature.

So let's start at the top. Lighting is organized so that the bathroom creates a feeling of natural light. Why is this needed? The room has a large number of fresh flowers that require constant lighting.

A little tip for those who want to place plants in the bathroom: choose greens that have smooth leaves and make sure that soapy deposits do not settle on them.

The walls are decorated with wood paneling and Neo hedonism tiles by Petra Antiqua.

“Miraculous” elements were used for decor, for example, a bizarre snag under the washbasin. A separate word is worthy of a tub on the wall, which continued the bath theme, it not only carries a decorative load, but is also used for dousing with cold water.

Bright but soft enough light is provided original lamp over the bath. Thanks to its bizarre shape, the floor lamp has become the highlight of the interior.

Of the plumbing, a rectangular sink and a wall-mounted toilet with an installation are installed. Part of the bathroom is visually zoned with floor tiles.

The abundance of cabinets and shelves would be inappropriate in an ecological interior, so the choice was made in favor of wall niches equipped with lighting.

The no-frills bathroom looks cozy thanks to the use of materials with different textures, which were important to combine in shape and color.

The recreation area, if the area allows, can be supplemented with sofas, benches or sun loungers. In this project, I decided to choose a stylish armchair, which, in terms of shape and color, found a “relative” in a wicker laundry basket.

In the spirit of Zen

The East is a delicate matter, this phrase from the legendary film also applies to interiors made in oriental style.

The owners of the house looked at the design from a minimalist point of view, which was not reflected at all. classic interior. After the redevelopment and transformations carried out, the bathroom acquired the features of minimalism with details of zen aesthetics.

Let's start with finishing materials, the choice of which focused on naturalness. Naturalness touched not only the type of material, but also the color, there are no saturated complex colors, everything is as simple and close to the soul as possible.

The room seems much larger due to the huge window and gable roof forming a high ceiling. This feeling of freedom I did not clutter up.

I decided to raise the bath on the podium, this will allow the owners of the house to enjoy the view from the window. The main material - massaranduba wood, is most often used in exterior decoration, as it is able to endure temperature changes and humidity.

River pebbles were used to fill the gap between the podium and the floor. The "stone" theme, started with a pebble strip, was supported by natural limestone slabs laid on the floor.

You'll never guess what a wall-hung washbasin is made of. Marble? Colored acrylic? Not! It is maple, dyed in a rich black-brown color.

Storage space was formed in the cabinet above the sink, closed with mirrored doors. The design of the washbasin looked too massive, so I placed it in a niche, now it does not take up volume from the room. The sink was once a piece of polished concrete, which was pre-treated with a special impregnation.

The issue of lighting required a well-thought-out solution. LED strip built under the washbasin and a wooden podium so that it illuminates the laid out river pebbles. Overhead lighting - pendant lamps in the form of glass cylinders of laconic design.

A convenient and functional solution was the built-in shower, designed for two. Taking a shower at the same time allows the construction area and the mounted overhead shower on one side and a hand shower on the other. Space zoning is provided by a built-in bench.

In the interior used:

  • mixer - R10 Series 3FRTL Rubinet;
  • floor tiles - Arctic Gray limestone Daltile;
  • bath - Barcelona Victoria and Albert;
  • lighting fixtures - Top-si Coax Pendant LBL;
  • mixer - R10 Series 1BRTL Rubinet.

The philosophy of stone - what to combine with pebbles in bathroom design

So, if you decide that in your bathroom there must be a place for plain pebbles, approach the choice with all responsibility.

  1. The form. In the design of a bathroom that is focused on naturalness and naturalness, there should be no sharp corners. Even if the sink and tub are rectangular, it should be as streamlined as possible.
    By the way, such forms are the most popular among designers this year, to understand this, just look at the interior insert. Pay attention to the models Tiberino Cielo and Gessi Equilibrium. Looking at the last copy, the saying “water does not flow under a lying stone” is born, and indeed it will not flow until you move it.
    Forms should not be redundant. Focus on Japanese minimalism, which promotes the rejection of excess. An example of this is the Saltodaqua Flaminia shell - a tribute to Japanese tradition and the tea ritual.

  1. Colour. Colored ceramics are in favor, but not bright, but natural: olive, light brown, wood tone. Depending on the pebble color chosen, furniture can be light gray or almost black, such as the Catino Cipria Cielo washbasin model or the Bonola Flaminia toilet bowl.

  1. Alternative - black. Say goodbye to shiny chrome faucets in favor of black.
  2. Light furniture. So, we turn to the choice of furniture. Pebbles in the interior of the bathroom will not tolerate proximity to bulky cabinets and chests of drawers. The design should be as lightweight as possible, preferably frame. Feel free to choose hanging minimalistic consoles with a metal open frame, for example, the Norm Architects Ex.t Via Tortona 34 model.

  1. Neighbor - marble. White marble with a mesh of gray veins can coexist with pebbles. Great flooring solution!

Pebbles: how, where, why?

  1. individual pebbles. Pebbles are selected by size and color, fixed tile adhesive and the seams are frayed. The method is laborious, so it is suitable only for finishing small fragments of the wall, it is often combined with tiles or moisture-resistant plaster.

  1. Pebble Mosaic Tiles. AT this option individual pebbles are initially glued onto the fiberglass mesh. Combinations of color and size have already been selected for you, all that remains for you is to fix the fragments with ordinary tile adhesive.

Black pebbles - bathroom tiles in the decoration of the floor and walls of the shower cabin

  1. Pebble rug. The easiest option that you can easily implement with your own hands. Pebbles are fixed on fabric or rubber, used anywhere in the bathroom.

  1. mound. The method is more decorative than practical. Pebbles fall asleep in floor or wall niches, if desired, fixed with glue.

So, having dealt with possible options Let's move on to the practical part.

Option number 1 - pebble tiles

Floor pebble tiles are sold in small squares measuring 30x30 cm, each such square can fit from 50 to 60 pebbles. Due to the transparent mesh base and the wavy edge, the joints are almost invisible.

Tools and materials:

  • tile;
  • tile adhesive;
  • primer;
  • grout;
  • water repellent;
  • roller or wide brush;
  • rubber spatula;
  • notched trowel;
  • sponge.
Stage Instructions for conducting
Preparatory Laying tiles is carried out on a previously prepared, leveled surface. The evenness is assessed using a level, large cracks and potholes are closed with a self-leveling mortar or cement screed. Small irregularities can be left, they will be leveled with tile adhesive.

A primer is applied to the prepared base with a brush or a short-haired roller, which enhances the adhesion of the adhesive. Please note that for the bathroom, deep-penetrating primer mixtures with a moisture-proof effect that do not contain solvents are used.

If a pebble floor is installed in a shower cabin, a layer of waterproofing is preliminarily laid, for example, special mastic. Recommend:

  • Ceresit CR 65;
  • Mira 4400 multicoat ;
  • Ceresit CO 81;
  • Knauf Flachendicht;
  • KN-2 IZOFAST.
Basic Before fixing the tile, lay it out “dry”. At this stage, individual elements are cut with a knife for the most accurate joining.

For laying tiles, use porcelain stoneware adhesive or natural stone. The glue is closed with water and thoroughly mixed until a creamy thick mass is formed.

Laying starts from the far wall. The glue is applied with a notched trowel to an area of 2-3 tiles (up to 1 m). Make sure that the adhesive layer does not exceed 1-1.5 cm. A mesh with pebbles is laid on top, leveled and pressed with a palm, a metal trowel or a piece of plywood.

Note! When laying pebble tiles, the appearance of defects is inevitable, which can easily be covered with separate pebbles.

final It will take about two days for the glue to dry completely, after which it can be taken for grouting. You can use a regular tile grout or a tinted mixture, the color of the latter is determined by the shade of the stones and overall design bathroom.

The mixture is applied by rubbing with a rubber spatula. After the grout has set (20-30 minutes), excess mass is removed from the stones with a damp sponge.

The next day, the tile is treated with a water repellent - an impregnation that allows you to protect the stones from moisture.

To obtain a "wet" effect, 1-2 layers of varnish are applied to the surface.

Option number 2 - a floor of individual stones

In this case, a separate pebble is used, collected by hand on the beach or acquired in bulk.

Tools and materials:

  • tile adhesive;
  • pebbles;
  • grout;
  • tassel;
  • sponge;
  • notched trowel.

Sequence of work:

  1. Surface preparation is carried out according to the technology described above and includes leveling, priming and waterproofing work (if necessary).
  2. For mosaics, stones that are as similar in size and shape as possible are selected. Color sorting is also preliminarily performed.
  3. Stones that were purchased in bulk or assembled on their own require preparation. Each pebble is treated with a metal brush and washed with soapy water.
  4. Glue is applied to a small area of \u200b\u200bthe floor (thickness 1-1.5 cm). Each pebble is “sit down” on the glue and recessed by 1/3.
  5. After 2 days, you can start grouting.

Option number 3 - a pebble rug

Want to create a piece of pebble beach? A portable mat option for you!

So, we need:

  • flat thin pebbles;
  • rubber mat of suitable size and shape;
  • glue transparent waterproof.

  1. Stones are sorted by size and color, washed and dried.
  2. Pebbles are tried on, laying out “dry”. You can lay out a plain surface, an ornament or an inscription.
  3. Each individual element is glued onto a rubber base and pressed.
  4. After drying, apply 1-2 layers of varnish.

If you don't plan on varnishing, wax the pebbles. This will give the surface not only shine, but also water-repellent properties.

Summing up

Natural materials do not go out of fashion, they exist outside of time. Inconspicuous at first glance, pebbles are able to set the tone for the entire interior. Don't believe? Try it!

And it remains for me to offer you a video in this article and interesting conversation in the comments on how to use pebbles in decor.

In the design of the bath, the style of the sea direction is considered very popular. And this is quite understandable. In the bathroom, all procedures are connected with water. In addition, this is the room where a person relaxes and thoughts about the warm sea visit. The decoration of this room will help to strengthen the marine theme.

The floor lined with pebbles (river or sea) looks very impressive. It is not necessary to lay out the entire floor, you can arrange a small area. Such a design technique will look very beautiful and add originality to everything.

Pebble flooring options

1. Pebble mosaic.
