How to make a ladder for the roof with your own hands? Roof and facade stairs Ridge hook for stairs.

The ladder for the roof and its design is similar to the usual one, with parallel bars and equipped with an additional stop that allows it to securely hook on.

A metal roof ladder is used for safe climbing to the roof.

Using a ladder or ladder to repair a roof will provide maximum comfort when working on a roof with a steep slope. In addition to repairing the roof, a ladder to the roof is indispensable for arranging the upper part of a stone or chimney, which is located above the roof. It will also make it much faster to repair pipes, install an antenna, etc.

To date, various construction bases and hardware stores offer a fairly wide range of these products. Roof ladders are mostly made of aluminium.

A big disadvantage of using ready-made stairs is that the distance between the bars does not match the distance of the waves of the roof covering, which is very fragile, such as, for example. In this regard, there is a possibility of destruction of the sheets of material, which will necessitate their replacement, and this is an additional financial cost. To avoid this, it is better to make a ladder to the roof to repair the roof yourself.

To provide best conditions for work on a roof, it is necessary to start by measuring the distance from the edge of the roof slope to the roof ridge. The resulting value will be the length of the longitudinal bars. Parts made of hardwood or coniferous wood are suitable as a material for them; their cross section should be 30x100 or 30x80 mm. How large the cross section will be depends on the height of the waves on the roofing material. To make steps, you can use the material whose cross section is not less than 30x60 mm.

Roof ladder manufacturing

For the manufacture of stairs to the roof, it is necessary to prepare all the details of the required section. First of all, make sure that the distance at the vertical bars is a multiple of the distance at which the waves of ondulin (bituminous slate) or slate (if available as a roof) are located from each other. Next, based on the size obtained, it is necessary to cut the steps. To make the ladder convenient to operate, it is advisable to make the distance between the steps no more than 40 cm.

Using nails or self-tapping screws with a length of 80 mm or more, attach the parts that you have prepared to the longitudinal ones. Make sure to make a connection without protrusions connecting element from the bottom of the string.

A wooden roof ladder is the simplest and most inexpensive design that you can do yourself.

The main device that allows you to catch on the skate is a hook. To make a hook, you will need to attach two short bars, the length of which is approximately 80 cm, at the upper end at an equal angle between the slopes. In order not to damage the roofing material or soft tiles, attach to the ends of the hook transverse bars, which will probably remain after the manufacture of the feet. Do not forget that the health of you and your loved ones will depend on how well you do the work.

And in conclusion, a few words about the nuances of installing and moving such devices on the roof.

First of all, such moving and installation work should only be done with a partner. To make it more convenient to work, you can equip the ladder with wheels. Then, if you need to reinstall it, it will be enough to turn the ladder on wheels without fear of damaging the roof. Alas, this option is not suitable for all cases, there may be problems with corrugated materials such as slate, ondulin and clay tiles.

To avoid breakage of the hook, it is better to have only one person on the ladder. If you need to speed up the work, then it is better not to be lazy and make a second staircase.

Conclusion

And lastly, periodically check the position of the hook of the ladder to the roof. And, if a defect is found, immediately eliminate it and only then continue work. Also, it will not be superfluous to use additional insurance. Be careful and good luck!

If the home master has to perform any roofing work, a roof ladder will help him, it is not difficult to make such a structure with his own hands, saving a considerable amount on the purchase of a factory product.

Ladder structures for working on the roof have a special design. You can purchase such a ladder at a hardware store. But it is many times more profitable to make it yourself and use it not only for installing a new roof, but also for performing periodic repairs, installing a satellite dish and other events.

The ladder for the roof performs two important functions at once. Firstly, it protects the roof elements from a variety of damage during repairs, which can be caused by tools or shoes. Secondly, this product reduces the risk of injury to a person at height and creates comfortable conditions for installation or maintenance of the roof.

roof ladder

Most often, home craftsmen use the following types of stairs:

  • wall-mounted;
  • attic;
  • installed directly on the roof slope (in a professional environment they are called ridge).

Wall structures are made of light steel alloys, aluminum or wood. They make it possible to climb to the roof directly from the ground. To wall surface such structures are attached using special brackets. The distance between the wall staircase for the roof and the wall itself is taken at least 0.2 m. roof hatch with an attic (from the latter, access to the roof is carried out).

The most popular are considered to be ridge stair structures.

They, as mentioned, are fixed directly to the roof slope, due to which they have the required stability. Let's talk about the technology of their manufacture.

At home, ladder structures for working on the roof are most often made of wood. You will need the following materials:

  • bars 4x4 cm (you can take larger products);
  • boards 2.5x16 mm;
  • trimming bars or boards (their thickness should be about 5 cm);
  • 10 cm nails either.

First you need to decide on the length of the stairs you want to make (make a simple drawing with the required dimensions) in order to cut out two guides. After that, proceed to the manufacture of steps. It is undesirable to make them too thin. It is proved that such products are very inconvenient for movement - a person's legs on them get tired very quickly. A similar problem is observed when the steps are too close to each other on the stairs. Professionals advise choosing the distance between the steps at the level of 0.4–0.5 m. It is optimal for a person of average height.

The cut steps are attached to the guides with nails or self-tapping screws. Note! If you want to achieve the maximum strength of the stairs, it is better to use nails. They should be hammered into the tree to the end and the protruding end should be drowned. The first part of our design is already ready.

Now let's start making the hook. This element of a homemade ladder for the repair and installation of the roof is necessary for attaching the structure to the ridge. You can make a hook from the boards. It is made:

  • fixed for a stationary ridge ladder;
  • removable if you plan to move the structure along the roof.

Making a homemade ladder for repair and installation of the roof

In the first case, 30–40 cm pieces of wooden bars are attached to the ends (upper) of the guides using self-tapping screws (bolts are also allowed). Important! Fastening is made at an angle that is identical. Horizontal wooden pieces are installed between the bars. They give the hook strength. You will feel confident when doing roofing works on this ladder.

For a mobile structure, the hook is made in a similar way, but removable. You need:

  • drill holes for the bolts at the ends of the guides;
  • insert the fasteners into the holes made and tighten well.

Ladder products with a removable hook are more versatile. You can put them on the ground and make, for example, repairs to the walls of a building.

If you made the drawing and calculations incorrectly and the roof ladder turned out to be a little less than planned in length, increase it. This is easy to do - overlap a few boards on the sides of the structure.

It is not recommended to screw homemade design various holders for materials and tools (many craftsmen sin with such "creativity"). This is fraught with the fact that you will catch on the installed hooks with clothes or your hand, lose your balance and fall to the ground from a height. Invest in a mounting belt to go up to the roof with all the tools you need to get the job done.

A homemade ladder, as a rule, is not used to climb a metal roof. An ordinary stationary type roof ladder will simply spoil the appearance of an expensive coating. It is better to buy a factory kit, consisting of the ladder itself and elements for its assembly and installation.

Metal Roof Climbing Kit

This set has special plastic legs-supports. They are attached every 140–150 cm on a metal roof with self-tapping screws. If your house is high enough, you can purchase several factory kits, make 2-3 ladders out of them and combine them into one structure without any problems.

In addition, it is easy to extend the stairs for the roof of metal tiles to the ground. Again, a ready-made set of elements is used. You attach the structure from it to the main staircase structure and securely fix it on any surface - concrete, wood, stone.

Let's add that the factory stairs for the metal roof are fixed to the ridge with two brackets. They easily hook on the top of the roof and connect to the end of the ladder.

If you do not want to spend money on buying a ready-made kit, you can make a wooden ridge staircase using the technology described earlier. But be prepared for the fact that the metal roof will lose all its attractiveness and prestige.

Roofs and roofs are an integral part of every capital structure. At the same time, it is no secret to anyone that from time to time they need to be inspected, repaired and eliminate defects acquired during operation. For this purpose, when installing roofs, a structure such as a roof ladder is provided. Only in the case of constant monitoring and control of the condition of the roof is it possible to detect and eliminate its deterioration in time. appearance and damage. The real owner of the house will always provide for this moment during construction. And if, in the event of the appearance of minor defects, a small scheduled repair is required, then if the problem is ignored, the wear of the roof will increase significantly, which will ultimately lead to the need to replace it. Gutter systems and chimneys should be subjected to periodic control, and for this it is necessary to have safe and unhindered access to the roof. So without such an element as a roof ladder simply can not do.

Types of roof stairs

Today, roofing ladder structures are presented in a wide range, in specialized stores and building markets. There are several types of products of this type, among which are:

  • pitched stairs;
  • wall stairs;
  • attic stairs;
  • emergency stairs.

Features of installation of roof structures

The ladder to the roof is installed in this way:

  • by means of brackets, which are special fasteners that are mounted on ladder racks and fastened to bolts.
  • a product already assembled on the ground is attached to the roof.

Important! To prevent leakage in the places where the stairs are attached to the roof, it is necessary to use a special sealant.

As for wall structures, they are assembled from modules, whereby the desired length is easily achieved.

The stage of installation of the roof ladder structure provides for:

  • installation of handrails, after which the nozzle of the brackets on the racks is reproduced. They are fixed with bolts above and below the steps;
  • then the brackets are attached to the walls;
  • the selection of anchors is carried out depending on what material the building is built from.

Roof ladder installation

Such designs are suitable for any roofing: corrugated board, seam surface, metal tiles, soft roofing, smooth metal roof etc.

Advice! It is advisable to determine the length of the roof structure in advance. This will make it possible to trim in advance, while the stairs are not yet assembled and simplify the installation process.

Conclusion

Roof ladder is an integral part roofing system each home and is designed to facilitate the maintenance and control of roof coverings, chimneys and drainpipes.

Designs of this type should be as convenient as possible in operation while ensuring a high degree of reliability. This is the reason for the use of quality modern materials during their manufacture, which prevents the possibility emergencies.

The production of roof ladders has been adopted by the world's leading manufacturers. Products of this kind are in demand among owners of private houses, country villas and cottages. Such structures can be used not only for private buildings, but also for public and social buildings. Roof and facade ladders allow you to easily climb to the roof of any house, which is necessary to inspect the condition of the roof, antennas, chimney. In addition, the devices facilitate the implementation of repair work on the roof.

No technological operations related to updating the roofing, carrying out repair work, checking and preventing utilities passing through the roof, putting in order its other elements, can not be carried out with high quality if the master does not have a reliable support. In a word, this requires a foundation that would not particularly hamper the worker in movements. But at the same time, it would guarantee the integrity of the roofing and protect it from deformation. Such a device becomes a ladder, which must be well fixed on the ridge - permanently or only for the period of certain work.

It should be noted right away that the design used for working at height must be highly reliable and absolutely safe. Therefore, if you need to have a folding version of the ridge ladder at your disposal, it is recommended to purchase it ready-made. Moreover, such offers in construction stores are quite enough. Nevertheless, many owners of private houses have a question about how to make a folding ladder to the roof ridge on their own. Let's try to shed more light on this problem.

Why do you need a ladder on the roof?

To understand how necessary a ladder is, installed on a roof slope, it makes sense to first turn to regulatory documents. So, according to the norms of GOST 12.4.059-89 "System of labor safety standards", it is determined that when working on roofs with a slope of more than 25% (14 degrees in angular measurement), on wet, covered with hoarfrost or snow, portable working walkways, having a width of not less than 300 mm, made of two boards fastened with transverse strips. When performing work, the walkways must be securely fastened.

Well, if any technological process carried out on a roof with a slope of more than 33% (more than 18 degrees), or on overhangs of any steepness roof structures, without barriers, workers must wear safety belts with safety ropes. Safety devices are attached to securely installed roof elements that can withstand the loads created by the weight of a person.

So, the presence of a temporarily installed or permanently fixed version of the ladder on the slopes of the roof, ensuring the safety of a person when working at height, is a necessity for the following processes:

  • Carrying out regular audits of the state of chimney and ventilation ducts, their implementation. The control quality of waterproofing of areas of adjoining roofing to them.
  • Preventive inspection, and if necessary, and repair (including complete replacement of certain elements) of the ridge and joints of the roofing.
  • Installation on the roof surface of additional structures - racks or masts, roof windows, etc.
  • Cleaning of roofing and elements drainage systems from snow or accumulated debris.

Due to the fact that some roof coverings are quite fragile and cannot withstand point loads, they can crack or deform when a person moves over them. Therefore, a ladder is an element that is necessary for almost any operation carried out on the roof. That is, another important function is the protection of the roofing material when working on the roof to move a person along its surface.

Roofs that require particular care include membrane coatings, slate and ondulin sheets, bituminous tiles, corrugated board with a low profile, which can easily be washed when exposed to the foot.

If a particular ladder model is required for rooftop installation, it can be purchased from a specialized store. Moreover, not every version of the stairs can be made independently without the presence of special equipment.

However, the interest of the owners of private houses in the issue of making stairs for the roof with their own hands does not disappear. Therefore, further this topic will be considered from different angles.

Varieties of stairs to the roof ridge

Initially, it is worth considering the types roof ladders that can be classified according to their design and material of manufacture.

Stair structures

By general design stairs can be divided into stationary and temporarily installed, as needed.

  • Stationary stairs firmly attached to the elements truss system and roofs. They are designed for safe climbing to the roof for repairs, cleaning chimney channels, as well as freeing the roof from

Such a design is fixed in one immediately selected place, as a rule, next to the chimney, as it most often requires preventive maintenance. It is clear that due to the fact that it cannot be rearranged in different areas of the roof, such a ladder can only be installed on stable structural elements. It is usually installed on roofs with a durable coating that will not sag and cannot be damaged under the influence of point loads, and it can be used to perform certain works on other parts of the roof. In addition, the roof should have a slight slope, not exceeding 25 degrees.

However, in order to avoid accidental damage even to durable roofing, stationary stairs are often installed in combination with modern metal walkways. They are mounted on a permanent basis along the ridge or just below it, so that it is possible, if necessary, to get to all communication channels. In addition to walkways, the safety complex includes eaves limiters, which can also serve as a foothold in case of slipping down. These elements are in the form metal pipes or profiles fixed along the edge of the roof, at the same time they can serve as limiters for snow drifts. They do not allow the snow to leave the roof at the same time - lingering, it gradually melts, and the melt water flows down the gutters of the drainage systems. Such a system allows you to safely carry out roofing and maintenance work, and also eliminates the risk of snow and ice blocks falling on your head in the spring.

  • Mobile (portable) stairs can be permanently located on the roof or stored in utility rooms and used when it is necessary to carry out any work on the roof.

It is the removable version of the stairs that can be a one-piece structure, folding or sliding. This ladder can be moved and installed in any area of the roof and used for both maintenance and repair, as well as for roofing and installation of additional roofing elements.

A portable folding ladder can be purchased ready-made or made by yourself. However, doing it yourself, you need to make accurate calculations, which will make its use at a height absolutely safe - it must calmly withstand the weight of a person moving along it.

Materials for the manufacture of stairs to the ridge

Previously, roof stairs were mainly made of wood. Today on sale you can find not only wooden, but also metal structures made of aluminum or steel. Metal options for stairs can be solid or collapsible.

When choosing a metal staircase, it is best to give preference to the one which made of aluminum, as it is more resistant to external aggressive factors and much lighter than steel, which is especially important for mobile folding ladders.

Without exception, all ladder models can be used to work on roofs covered with any roofing materials. However, when installing them permanently or temporarily, it is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of their location, as well as fixing on the ridge and slopes.

  • wooden stairs is the most popular option. Both mobile and stationary models are made from this material. Folding wood structures are, of course, more difficult to make, but still possible.

For the manufacture of wooden stairs, a standard set of parts is required. Usually it includes two support beams installed along the slope line, and horizontal crossbars. The number of these crossbars can be different, and it depends on the size of the slope on which planning to use stairs.

Stationary wooden stairs are mounted directly on the roof covering, usually along the location lines rafter legs(for greater reliability) and are fixed to them and to the batten guides in several places. For example, on a roof covered with corrugated board, slate or ondulin, the stairs are fastened with special clamps installed at the bottom of the wave. Therefore, when planning the manufacture of stairs for such roofing, it is necessary to calculate the distance between the waves, and focusing on this parameter, choose the width of the staircase.

Instead of stairs, some owners of private houses prefer to make ladders, which consist of a wide board and rungs fixed to it with a certain step. This device is convenient because it is lighter and more “agile” than a conventional ladder, but in terms of ensuring the safety of work, it certainly loses to it.

Most common a way to fix a wooden ladder or ladder on a ridge is a kind of hook made of the same material, fixed to the end or back side of the ladder at an angle at which roof slopes converge (for large slope angles) or under a straight line, for slopes of small steepness.

  • metal stairs can be made of steel or aluminum ordinary or profile pipes suitable size. The stationary version of the structures is fixed to the roof slope with the help of special brackets - racks, which are usually mounted on rubber gaskets - to ensure the sealing of these connecting nodes.

Factory-made stairs can be single-section, designed for use on roofs with slopes no larger than 2000 mm, as well as multi-section, which are required on roofs with a large length of slopes. Factory metal structures are most often made of galvanized steel pipes, the surface of which is coated with a protective powder coating. The color of the color is chosen depending on the preference of the owner of the house and the shades of the roofing - the range is quite wide.

Finished stairs are sold unassembled and assembled without the use of welding work- using the fasteners included in the delivery.

The best option stationary metal stairs is a whole complex consisting of modules for different purposes. One of them is fixed on the slope of the roof, and the second - on the wall. This allows you to seamlessly climb them from the ground to the ridge. Usually, a fence is also provided for the most dangerous section during ascent and descent - at the transition from an inclined to a vertical surface.

The kit usually consists of the following elements, shown in the illustration:

1 - Bracket with which the ladder is fixed to the roof ridge.

2 - Flights of stairs installed along the roof slope and vertical wall building.

3 - Handrail to ensure the safety of the transition from vertical to slope stairs.

4 - Bracket for fixing the ladder to the roof surface.

5 - Suspension bracket for mutual fastening of the roof and wall ladder module.

6 - Bracket for fixing the vertical module to the wall surface.

When assembling such a structure, it must be taken into account that the distance between the upper step of the wall module to the eaves cannot be more than 100 mm, and the distance between the wall and the stairs must be at least 200 mm. However, it makes sense to consider the installation of such a kit in more detail.

Installation of a ready-made set of metal stairs on the wall and roof

Before purchasing a ready-made ladder set, it is necessary to determine the place of its installation, which is selected taking into account the following criteria:

  • The need to ensure free access to all objects located on the roof and requiring periodic inspection and, if necessary, repair is taken into account. Additionally, walkways can be mounted along the ridge for free movement along its entire line.
  • If the roof covering has a smooth surface, then walkways should be equipped to ensure a safe approach to all nodes that require periodic preventive inspection.
  • The staircase, consisting of a roof and wall module, can be installed from the side of the overhang of the slope or from the gable side of the building. If the structure is mounted from the gable side, then in the upper part it can immediately go into the walkway.
  • The location of the stairs on the roof is also affected by the design of the lathing, since the brackets holding the modules can only be fixed to a rigid base.
  • If a solid crate is arranged under the roofing material, then this somewhat simplifies the task, since the ladder can be fixed anywhere in the slope.
  • When designing a ladder for a roof, you must immediately decide whether the wall part of the structure will be installed, which is designed to ensure safe climbing to the slope. An optimal location should also be provided for it, with convenient access, but not interfering with the placement of any objects in the yard and not spoiling the external the appearance of the building, if it seems so to the owners.

Most manufacturers make stairs with a length of 1860 and 3000 mm. Modules can be connected if necessary. Well, the excess structure is easily sawn off with a hacksaw, after which it is recommended to process the edge in order to avoid the formation of a corrosion center. It is not recommended to cut the uprights of a ladder with a polymer coating using angle grinder cars ("grinders"). Firstly, the edges of the cut are overheated from this, which contributes to the further development of corrosion. And secondly, sparks flying during cutting can burn through protective covering metal.

The rules for mounting the stairs require that they be securely fastened to the surface of the slope as well as on the line of the ridge run. However, fixing the metal structure to the ridge is an optional measure. But if you want to carry out the installation in accordance with all the rules, you will need a special type of fastening - these are steel strips with holes. When fixing the stairs with these parts, they are brought under the ridge element of the roof.

Whether the fastening to the ridge will be used, it is necessary to decide even when drawing up the project, due to the fact that:

  • When fixing the ladder only to the roof plane, the ladder can be made shorter than the length of the slope by 200 mm, stepping back from the bottom and top by 100 mm.
  • If both types of fastening are used, then the ladder will be shorter than the slope by 550 ÷ 600 mm. In this case, they retreat from the cornice edge of 100 mm, and from the ridge line 450 ÷ 500 mm, which will be necessary to install the ridge mount.

To fix the ladder on the roof, various fasteners are used, which must correspond to the type and relief of the roofing material. According to the established safety standards, when installing stairs on top of ceramic, bituminous and metal tiles, as well as on a roof made of corrugated board and ondulin, four mounting brackets must be used for each section 1860 mm long, and for a three-meter section - all six fasteners.

To install the stairs on a seam metal roof, in addition to the usual fasteners, special structures are used, mounted in the central part of the steps, usually two of them are needed per module length of 1860 mm.

If a ladder model is selected that has a wall module included, then during design it is necessary to determine the length of the brackets. This parameter will depend on the width of the cornice overhang, since the ladder must be 200 mm away from the edge of the eaves.

Wall brackets for stairs are fixed in increments of no more than 1000 mm.

The upper step of the wall ladder should be located on the same level with the cornice line ±100 mm, and the lower rung should be 1000 ±200 mm above ground level, depending on the comfort of the lift for the owner of the house. However, to enter this ladder, a small side ladder is still usually used, which, as unnecessary, is removed to the utility room. Not a bad precaution to keep the stairs to the roof from becoming the object of children's games.

wall bracket prices

wall brackets

To remove part of the load from the upper wall bracket, it is additionally fixed with a hanging bracket, which is connected in the upper part to the fixing unit of the ladder roof module.

After the main parts of the stairs are installed, that is, the roof and wall modules, handrails are mounted, for fixing which, a bolt M -10 × 35 is used on the edges of the vertical elements of the wall module. The other side of the handrail is attached to the ladder roof module using the included brackets. If necessary, the handrails of the stairs can be made shorter by cutting them with a hacksaw.

How well all the fasteners of the stairs are tightened must be checked at least three times in the first year after installation, in the future one annual revision will be enough.

Fastening the stairs on the slope in the upper part is carried out in accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturer of the product, and taking into account the characteristics of the roofing. The illustration shows the main options:

1 - The module is fixed only with brackets on the surface of the roofing material.

2 - Fastening with the help of special fasteners thrown over the ridge line.

3, 4, 5 - Additional fixation with the help of special brackets fixed to the upper ends of the vertical racks of the roof ladder, and on the other side - to the ridge beam.

And the illustration below shows the features of several more mounting and connecting nodes:

Wall brackets are fixed to a rigid and solid base such as concrete or brick. Fasteners are selected according to according to the material from which walls are built. The brackets are installed in pairs at a distance equal to the width of the ladder, as they will hold the vertical racks of the module.

Wall brackets are connected to the ladder uprights by means of clamps, which are tightened with bolts.

The handrails are connected to the ladder wall module by bolts, and to the roof module by means of U-brackets.

If necessary, suspension brackets connecting the roofing module with the wall mount can be passed through the eaves (or gable, depending on the installation location) roof overhang, as shown in the right fragment of the figure.

Variants of using finished aluminum stairs as ridge stairs

If the owners already have a reliable aluminum staircase at their disposal, then it is quite possible to adapt it for use, if necessary, as roofing option. This will become one of the varieties of folding ridge ladder, which can not be left on the roof, but quickly put on “combat readiness” when there is a need for it.

  • So, for example, you can purchase a special hook, which is designed to be mounted on ladder racks. It is designed for any angle of the roof slopes, so it can be called universal, that is, suitable for different roof structures and types of roofing.

Often, such structures are equipped with a roller with a soft pneumatic tire - this greatly facilitates the movement of the stairs along the roof without the risk of damaging any type of coating. High hook brackets will never damage the ridge elements of the roof, even with a heavy load on the stairs. And on the side that winds up behind the skate, the brackets are connected by a strong wooden jumper. It will eliminate the likelihood of a point impact on the roof of the installation site, distributing the load that falls on the towing device with its considerable area.

Having fixed such a device, convenient from all points of view, on the finished staircase, you can safely perform work on the roof.

  • There are simpler and cheaper devices. The illustration above shows simple hooks that also easily turn an ordinary attachment aluminum ladder into roofing.
  • Above, options were shown when the hooks, if not needed, are removed along with the ladder. But hooks can be mounted on the roof and permanently. For example, if it is not planned to permanently fix an ordinary aluminum ladder on the roof, then for its temporary installation it is possible to provide special hook brackets on different sections of the roof (those that require the most frequent “visit”), which are fixed to the batten bars or to plywood flooring. continuous framing.

In addition, this type of brackets has a fairly high strength. Such hooks may well be used to secure the master's safety belt on them when performing roofing repair or other work.

Brackets (hooks) are most often mounted in front of the flooring on the slopes of the roofing. They can also be installed on an already finished roof. Work on their installation is carried out in the following order:

If such hooks need to be installed on a roof already covered with a roof, then part of the coating must be temporarily dismantled.

After the bracket is fixed, the roofing is returned to its place. The lower edge of the sheet or tile covers the place where the hook is attached to the elements of the crate, and the bracket itself, as it were, comes out from under the cover. This ensures that this unit is protected from leakage.

If it is necessary to use a ridge ladder on the roof, it is put on the crossbar on the fixed brackets. The illustration also shows how the safety wire can be attached to the bracket at the same time as the ladder.

Production of wooden stairs for the roof

As mentioned above, wood is the easiest material to process, so it is much easier to make any staircase from it. It is enough to have tools that, as a rule, are already present in the "arsenal" of the average owner of a private house. This is a hacksaw or electric jigsaw, planer, chisel and electric drill.

For installation on the roof, you can make a regular ladder, a ladder, or a folding or sliding version of it. As a rule, all wooden stairs are mobile, that is, they can be rearranged along the slope surface to the desired location. And this means that they are all fixed to the roof ridge with specially made wooden or metal hooks.

In fairness, it must be said that properly selected and processed wood can serve no less than metal structures. But it is lighter than metal, so it will be easier to move it to the desired area of the roof.

It should be noted right away that for the manufacture of stairs for the roof, which, nowhere to go, will be exposed to the aggressive effects of the external natural environment, larch wood or other coniferous wood is best suited. Wood must be processed - there are many of them on sale. For this purpose, ordinary drying oil is also quite suitable, which should soak well the parts of the structure ready for installation.

Stair parts can be fastened with nails, but it is better to use self-tapping screws of a suitable length for this purpose.

First option

This is the most simplevariant of a mobile wooden ridge ladder. It will not be difficult to make this one on your own in just a few hours, of course, if you have all the necessary materials and tools.

To make this model, you need to prepare the following materials:

  • For vertical racks, two boards with a section of 25 ÷ 30 × 150 mm are required. Their length depends on the size of the slope.
  • The crossbars (steps) of the stairs are pieces of timber 50 × 30 or 50 × 40 mm, with a length equal to the width of the stairs.
  • For the supporting structure, you can use one beam 50 × 50 mm or several boards - two of which should have a section of 25 × 100 mm and a length equal to the width of the stairs, and four pieces having a size of 25 × 150 × 300 mm.

  • In addition to lumber, fasteners will be required - nails or self-tapping screws 80 ÷ 100 mm long.

Work on the manufacture of this model of stairs is carried out in the following order:

  • From the timber and boards processed by the planer, according to the dimensions, all the necessary structural details are cut.
  • Then, they should be covered with drying oil or other antiseptic primer with hydrophobic qualities, and wait until it is absorbed into the structure of the material.
  • If the ladder is to be used on a roof covered with corrugated material, then the width of the ladder must be calculated so that its vertical posts fit into the bottom of the corrugated roofing.
  • For steps-crossbars, a beam or a wide board of the sizes indicated earlier is best suited, the emphasis of the foot on them will be more convenient than on a narrow board. The steps are fixed in increments of at least 500 mm, since if they are installed more often and more, this will increase the weight of the structure and create inconvenience while moving up the stairs.
  • The next step is to lay out the vertical racks horizontally next to each other and mark the installation of the crossbars. And it is best to immediately note their width.
  • Further, along the marked lines, grooves can be cut, the width of which should be 3 mm larger than the width of the beam of the cross members. The depth of the grooves can be from 5 to 15 mm - steps will be installed in them. You can, of course, limit yourself to only marking without cutting grooves, but it will be more reliable with grooves.
  • Now you can proceed to the installation of steps. If they are screwed to the racks with self-tapping screws, it is recommended to first drill holes for them - this will prevent cracking of the wood along the edges of the parts. When used for fastening nails, they must pass through the junction of the crossbeam and post, and then bent over the back of the ladder. Fastening with nails will not work if the ladder will be installed on a roof covered with shingles, since the protruding and bent sections of the fasteners can still damage it.
  • To fix the module on the ridge line, it is necessary to fix the supporting element along the top of the stairs, which is most often placed at right angles to the main structure. It is screwed on the back of the racks or to their ends. However, the first mounting option is more reliable and durable. A powerful bar can serve as a support, or (preferably) the construction shown above in the illustration, consisting of six boards.

Particular attention must be paid to the strength of the fastening of the supporting element, since the reliability of fixing the ladder on the ridge will depend on it.

Such a ladder can be used as a portable or stationary option for climbing into the ridge area of \u200b\u200bthe roof. If you plan to install it permanently in a certain place, then you should try to arrange it so that you can carry out as much preventive and repair work from it as possible. If such an arrangement is not possible, then it is additionally recommended to fix walkways on the slope, allowing access to all elements of the roof structure that require regular monitoring and maintenance, first of all, to the ventilation and chimney ducts.

Second option

This ladder differs from the previous model in the size of the parts and the configuration of the support element, but it is manufactured in a similar way. First, the vertical racks are marked, then the steps are fixed on them, and lastly the support assembly is assembled, which just has a slightly more complex design.

To make such a ladder, you will need the following materials:

- two high-quality boards with a section of 100 × 30 mm, a length corresponding to the size of the slope;

- pieces of board for cross-steps 100 × 30 × 710 mm - their number depends on the length of the longitudinal racks;

- a thrust board measuring 100 × 30 × 850 mm - one piece;

- mounting board 100 × 30 × 607 mm - two pieces;

- spacer board 100 × 30 × 462 mm - two pieces;

- connecting board 100 × 30 mm, its length should be equal to the width of the stairs - one piece.

How these parts are assembled into a single design of the hook assembly - you can not tell. The illustration very clearly shows its device. which does not seem to need any special explanation.

It can only be noted that, in order to increase the strength of the knot, the two transverse boards of the hook in the shown embodiment are also pulled together by a wire twist.

And one more and interesting point.

If it is necessary to have a universal ladder that could be used everywhere, a variant with a folding support element can be useful, which can be used, for example, as a piece of a wide powerful board. That is, it can be fixed not permanently, by screwing it with screws or nailing it, but by installing it on powerful hinges, limiting their opening only to an angle of 90 degrees or to the one under which the roof slopes are located relative to each other.

If such a structure is made with high quality, then when it is installed on the roof, it will be enough just to open the supporting element and fix the ladder on the roof. At other times, it can be used as a regular attachment for other household or garden work.

Third option

Another, so to speak, “light” - a variant of the roof ladder is a ladder, the design of which can be called the easiest to manufacture. The only thing that is important to consider when calculating is the ability of the ladder to be securely held on the ridge and easily support the weight of the owner of the house.

The ladder can be made from one board and crossbars, or if a wider support on the roofing is needed, then two boards are installed as a base.

To make a ladder, you will need the following materials:

  • One board 300 mm wide or two boards 150 ÷ 200 mm wide, 25 mm thick. The length of the boards may vary depending on the size of the roof slope. The board will be needed for the base of the ladder.
  • Two supporting boards with a section of 100 × 25 mm and a length of 700 ÷ 1000 mm, as well as one board 200 wide, 20 thick and 200 mm longer than the width of the base. It is intended for tying the support boards - these parts will be required to form the structure of the support assembly of the structure.
  • A beam with a section of 30 × 30 or 40 × 40 mm - for the manufacture of steps. The length of such crossbars should exceed the width of the base by 200 mm, that is, the steps should protrude from each side of the vertically installed boards by 100 mm. The number of steps depends on the height of the ladder. They must be installed in steps that can vary from 200 to 500 mm - this parameter depends on the convenience of lifting a particular person.
  • In addition, nails or self-tapping screws will be needed to assemble the structure. When using nails, they must be bent from the back of the main boards, so their length must be at least 100 mm. Self-tapping screws should have a length slightly less (by 5 ÷ 7 mm) of the total thickness of the step and the base.

Ladder Assembly Order differs little from the manufacturing process of the stairs. It is carried out as follows:

  • One or two base boards are laid on a flat surface. If two boards are used, then a small gap must be left between them, which can be 5 ÷ 10 mm. It is necessary for ventilation, as well as to compensate for temperature and humidity linear fluctuations in wood.
  • Then the installation of the steps is marked - this process is done using a tape measure and a simple pencil or marker. It will be easier to navigate along the marked lines when fixing the crossbars, especially if the base is made of two boards.
  • The next step is to screw the upper and lower bars of the steps along the applied marking lines to the base. They will fasten the ladder boards together, and therefore it will be much easier to fix the remaining crossbars.
  • Further, stepping back from the upper edge of 150 mm, on the side ends of the main boards, the installation site of the supporting boards is marked. Their edges should also protrude above the surface of the ladder by 150 mm, and below - from 500 to 1000 mm. And it is necessary to install these supporting parts, taking into account the angle of the slopes relative to each other, since they must fit snugly against the ridge and surfaces. The support boards are fixed with self-tapping screws, which must be screwed in increments of 40 ÷ 50 mm through pre-drilled holes of a smaller diameter.
  • The last step in the assembly of the structure is the installation of a transverse board that will rigidly tie the support boards.

Fourth option

If it is necessary to make a portable ladder, which is planned to be used not only for working on the roof, but also for other needs, and it is required that it be increased in length if necessary, then you should pay attention to the sliding version of the design. By the way, it is also suitable if the complex with the house has several outbuildings with roofs of varying sizes. In this case, one sliding ladder, having modules of different lengths, can be used for a survey or any building.

The best option may be a staircase consisting of two modules, which can be completely separated or fastened into a structure of different lengths. It can be used as a roof ladder or as a ladder, and can be used to clean or repair e.g. a gutter system attached to a roof eaves.

Prices for stairs

For the manufacture of a two-module design, shown in the diagram, the following material will be required:

  • Four beams with a size of 60 × 35 mm in cross section - for the manufacture of racks. Their length can be different or the same, for example, it can be 1800 mm.
  • A beam with a cross section of 30 × 25 mm - for the manufacture of steps that will be fixed in increments of 350 mm. The width of the main ladder module, which will always be in the lower part, according to the diagram, should be 520 mm, and the upper one should be 450 mm, since it should go between the uprights of the first one. Accordingly, the length of the steps for different modules will be different. For the main module, this parameter should be 470 mm, and for the top 400 mm. The number of crossbars will depend on the chosen height of each of the modules. In this case, the step must be the same for all parts of the collapsible ladder.
  • In addition to lumber, it is necessary to prepare:

Two reliable hooks that are fixed on the upper ends of the racks of the upper module. with the help of them, he will be hooked on the mounts mounted on the skate;

At the upper ends of the lower main module, brackets must be fixed on which the upper module will be put on, and with the help of them the length of the ladder can be increased by half.

For a more secure mounting of the upper module on the lower one, you will need two brackets attached to internal parties racks immediately above the lowest step.

For the lower sides of the module racks, it is necessary to provide metal plates that are put on the bars of the racks;

To fix the steps on the racks, the “half-tree” connection method, the tie-in of the steps using the “groove-thorn” method, can be used. And the diagram shows the use of specially designed for this purpose fixinghigh-impact plastic elements, which are screwed with self-tapping screws to the inner sides of the racks. Steps are inserted into these clamps, and their edges will be protected from moisture. If one of the tie-in methods is chosen to fix the steps, then the steps must be made a little longer. It is the excess length that will be used to arrange the connections.

Metal retaining parts-brackets, fixed under all steps, or at least under those that will receive a large load. In particular, such reinforcement seems to be especially necessary where it is supposed to fix the brackets connecting the two modules.

If you understand this design, you can come to the conclusion that there is nothing complicated in its manufacture and assembly.

Work on the assembly of such a sliding ladder is carried out in almost the same way as a conventional one. Each of the modules is assembled separately, like a standard ladder, but then, in certain places, the brackets necessary for connection into a single structure are fixed to each.

So, relatively simple options for the manufacture of roofing and installation of finished factory structures were presented. If there are no stairs to the ridge on your house yet, then you should seriously think about the question of acquiring it - whether by buying, or self-assembly. It is very important that there is the possibility of free access to all communications located on the roof of the building, to the sections of the roofing. All emerging problems will be solved as soon as possible, and regular inspection and preventive maintenance of chimneys and ventilation risers will ensure comfortable and safe living in the house.

And at the end of the publication, the reader will surely find an interesting and informative video showing the original devices that ensure the safety of work on the roof.

Video: Useful equipment for safe work on the roof

Satellite dishes are now not uncommon, and they are installed on the roof of private houses. A ladder built on the roof not only protects you and your loved ones from accident, but also serves as a convenience, protects the roof of the house from damage. Walking on the top of the house and improper handling of tools can push through the ceiling. After all, rotten or damaged roofing causes leakage during the rainy season and snow melting.

There are many different types of this necessary accessory for repairs and at home. Often stairs are made from steel, aluminum and wooden boards. And from the blanks you can assemble the finished structure for the building.

However, the following stairs are most often used for the roof:

  • Attic (on the attic or roof);
  • Wall-mounted to rise from the ground to the roof;
  • pitched;
  • emergency;
  • For a gable roof.

Please note that there should be less than ten centimeters between the edge of the cornice and the top step. From the stairs to the wall, a distance of more than 20 cm is required.

Wall stairs are also called facade stairs. Where the front staircase ends, there must be handrails with good fastening. The top step should be at the height of the roof ledge. The distance from the vertical ladder to the window sill should be more than 1m.

Do-it-yourself ladder to the roof ridge: what you need to consider

The ridge of any roof can be made from the same materials as the roof. The roof ridge is also called the ridge strip, there are many different profiles to suit you. What design do you need?

The horse can be of any kind:

  • figured form;
  • Angular;
  • Semicircular;
  • conical.

When building a roof, the height of the ridge must be determined first. This is useful when calculating the volume of building components and the purchase price. After making the ridge, you should make a hook for attaching a ladder to it.

Note. This structure must be properly secured to prevent injury. It is necessary to minimize the probability of falling down.

How to make a ladder for roof work and what you need

The results of installation work with a roof ladder must provide an aesthetic appearance. The structure is fixed with brackets. They will pass through special holes. You must create a reliable waterproofing in the attachment points, and above all, ensure the safety of being at the top.

To work, you will need the following:

  • self-tapping screws;
  • Bars with a cross section of 40×40mm;
  • flat wooden planks section area 16×2.5mm.

The horizontal part of the steps is created from bars. Thin steps cause foot fatigue, and this must be borne in mind.

DIY staircase: drawings and diagrams

Any roof over time needs to be serviced, carried out different types repair. And so you can not do without special equipment. After all, it is necessary not only to move along the roof, but also to maintain balance, carry loads. Therefore, the safety of working at height is paramount here. You need a roof ridge and a homemade ladder that will be attached to it.

Finished stairs have disadvantages. Firstly, they have a high cost, even if it is cheap China. And secondly, the staircase may not fit into the frequency of the waves, and this will harm both the stairs and the roof. Sometimes the sizes and characteristics of stairs in building supermarkets do not fit the existing roofing material.

It is not difficult to select the necessary drawings with the selected scale for the dimensions of the structure. The main thing is to correctly perform all the calculations and correctly mount the stairs. On the drawing of the house, its location must be indicated. You must design everything correctly and without errors and correctly install the structure.

Economical option: do-it-yourself roof ladder

Many private houses have a wooden staircase on gable roofs. Wood is much simpler and more convenient than the popular metal profile. It is also necessary to take into account the fragility of roofing materials. And this means that it is desirable to take boards with a large width.

You will need:

  • Boards and bars of different lengths;
  • Long screws;
  • Construction tools.

Choose the minimum weight: aluminum stairs

Various aluminum building accessories are popular today. Because it is considered easy to use, lightweight and durable material. In GOSTs and SNiPs, much attention is paid to building safety and prevention of sliding down, repair technologies.

In roof work ladders made of aluminum, the rungs must be curved in order for the climb to be safe. And you can install a metal structure at a variety of angles. In such ladders, the highest quality and proven material is used.

What should be the ladder for a metal roof

If you need to make a metal tile staircase, take two poles 50x50mm and 6 meters long. You will need thin boards as steps. Use light and dry material. Steps are attached with self-tapping screws. The staircase will be completed in any case, since laying it in this form is risky.

For a ladder of 6 meters you have to make 10 - 12 bars. They must be wrapped with foam ( soft material) or penofol.

How to install a roof ladder (video)

The bars are attached to the stairs with self-tapping screws. The width of the stairs should correspond to the distance between the two poles. The bars along the edges must be rounded with a planer. If you have gable roof, then a hook is useful for attaching a movable ladder.
