Operated flat roof on wooden beams. Flat roof device and technology for creating a roofing pie

How often does a situation arise when a developer is tempted to use the flat roof of a garage or technical room attached to the house as an open terrace. A terrace on a flat roof above an exploited heated room is one of the most difficult elements, both for design and construction. This article will discuss how to properly arrange an open ventilated terrace on an exploited flat roof along wooden floor beams above a heated room.

The terrace above the heated room has a structure similar to that of a used flat roof and performs the same functions. One of the advantages of a ventilated terrace design is that all waterproofing materials are located below the deck, which significantly reduces the thickness of the outer layers compared to the option of external insulation of a non-ventilated flat roof. Also, the ventilated design of the terrace allows moisture to be removed from the ceiling itself.

The main requirements for the design of a flat exploited roof are terraces.
1. A flat ventilated roof - a terrace above an attached heated room should be located outside the perimeter of the main building. According to Norwegian building codes, only partial embedding of a flat roof - a terrace inside the contour of the main building - is allowed to a depth of no more than 1 meter. This condition is necessary for the passage of a sufficient amount of air in all parts of the ventilation gap.

2. When installing a flat roof - a terrace, a ventilation gap is created using a double crate. On the open sides of a ventilated flat roof - terraces, ventilation holes must be provided. The passage of a sufficient amount of air is necessary to remove excess moisture from the insulation.
3. The design of a flat exploited roof - terrace should not allow moisture from precipitation to enter the ceiling. To do this, you need to use special wind, waterproof membranes, but they should not prevent the release of steam from the insulation. For flooring under a waterproof floor covering of a flat roof - a terrace, you need to use moisture-resistant materials, for example, OSB-3 class boards.
4. If there is a danger of a large amount of snow melting on the surface of a flat roof - a terrace, then in this case it is necessary to provide an internal drainage system built into the ceiling itself. In the southern regions, with a small amount of precipitation in the form of snow, you can use mounted gutters and wall drainpipes, this also applies to those cases when the terrace is brought under a common roof with the house or the thickness of the heat-insulating layer is at least 250 mm.
5. The floor level of the operated flat roof - terrace should be approximately 50 mm lower than the floor level of the corresponding floor inside the house.

Basic structure operated flat roof - terraces

The ceiling, which is the base of a flat roof - a terrace, must consist of wooden beams with a section that meets the requirements of strength and rigidity. The moisture content of the load-bearing beams during floor assembly must not exceed 15%. For reference, we give the values of wood moisture: room-dry (with a moisture content of 8-12%), air-dry artificial drying (12-18%), atmospheric-dry (18-23%) and wet (humidity exceeds 23%). If the moisture content of the wood when sold on the base is marked as "natural", this means a moisture content of more than 23% (up to 80-90%).
When calculating the overlap of a flat roof, it is necessary to build on the minimum possible height of the beams that make up the supporting frame of the terrace. The use of beams with the lowest possible height for flat roof floor beams is necessary in order to lower the floor level by about 50 mm in relation to the floor of the corresponding floor inside the house. To increase the bearing capacity of the floor, you can reduce the spacing of the supporting beams (more efficient) or increase the width of the beams (less efficient). When choosing the cross-section of the load-bearing beams of the overlap of a flat exploited roof - a terrace, it must be remembered that the height of the beam must be equal to the calculated thickness of the heat-insulating layer.

The floor of the operated flat roof is a terrace.
The main structural elements of a flat roof-terrace, located under a solid flooring, are shown in the figure above. For flooring under a waterproof floor covering, you need to use moisture-resistant materials, for example, OSB-3 class boards. Roofing felt, rolled galvanized steel sheets and other similar materials can be used as a waterproof floor covering.
To protect the waterproof coating from mechanical damage, impregnated shields (impregnated with an antiseptic under pressure at the factory) are used. wooden planks. The width of the mounting bar must be at least 73 mm. There should be no sharp edges on the mounting bar facing the waterproof coating. Before installing wooden shields, an additional gasket is laid under the mounting bar to protect the waterproof coating. Wooden shields are laid so that they do not interfere with the outflow of rainwater. It is not necessary to fix wooden boards to floor beams, they should be easily removable in order to allow cleaning. The design of the flat roof flooring - terraces can be seen in the figure below:

Fencing of an operated flat roof - terraces
The fencing of a flat roof - terrace should be of such a design that the health of children and adults is not damaged due to falling behind the fence or getting stuck in it.
If the operated flat roof - terrace is located at a height of more than 0.5 m from the ground level, then the height of the fence must be at least 1 m. The height of the fence is measured from the top level of wooden shields.
The railing posts must be strong enough to withstand a design horizontal load of 0.4 kN/m2. The normative values of horizontal loads on the handrails of balcony railings in SP 20.13330.2011 "Loads and Impacts" (Russia) and DBN V.1.2-2-2006 "Navantazhennya i vplivi" (Ukraine) are set at 0.3 kN/m. n. The step of the fence posts should be no more than 1.2 m.
Between the fencing posts of the operated flat roof, vertical or horizontal filling is performed. To protect children from falling over the terrace fence, the distance between the vertical elements of the fence should be no more than 100 mm. To prevent children from climbing onto the fence, the distance between its horizontal elements should be no more than 20 mm.
To ensure horizontal rigidity and strength of the fencing of the operated flat roof - terrace, a massive handrail is mounted on top of the racks. In places of corner joints, the handrail is assembled using metal corners or plywood overlays in such a way that it is invisible from the outside. The terrace railing must be rigidly fixed to outer wall. Fencing posts are attached to the outer side of the flat roof - terraces so as not to damage the wind- and hydroprotective membrane. If it is impossible to fix the fence of the operated flat roof - terrace to the wall, or its length is from 8 to 10 m, then before choosing the section of the racks and the type of fastening, it is necessary to carry out a detailed calculation, taking into account the current moments and loads.

Nowadays flat roof- a unique architectural find for any suburban building, which allows not only to save a lot of materials when building a house, but also to use the usable area for arranging original recreational areas.

High-quality and modern technologies and materials help in the construction of a private house not only with the usual options for broken, gable and other analogues of roofs, but also for those houses and cottages in which it is made in the form of a plane.

Current buildings with the possibility of a flat roof

The device of a flat roof is a priority for private country houses, dachas and cottages, the owners of which prefer futurism. The architectural style combines such qualities as practicality and convenience.

The bulk of these houses are made either of wood or on a frame basis, which means that the roof itself in this case is a priority for a light sample, but not always. In fact, the structure can be made even of concrete or brick, and if so, then in this case a flat roof on wooden beams is considered.

That is, the beam system is securely spliced with the Mauerlat with strong anchor bolts or other fasteners.

When choosing this roofing option, many developers are based on the fact that it is the additional free space that makes it possible to build a wide variety of solutions on the roof itself that only have enough imagination. Some even manage to install a pool or winter garden. Remarkably, it is possible to do this on a wooden base.

To be honest, the design possibilities should not be overestimated in the form of such daring decisions as the construction of a swimming pool or a parking lot, since such architectural compositions require a monumental foundation.

As for other options, in the form of a practical recreation area, a terrace or an observation deck, such design options will become quite original and feasible, subject to competent calculation and compliance with building technologies.

Flat roof: pros and cons

Like any roof, a flat roof has a number of advantages and disadvantages. Characteristic advantages include:

  1. The square of a flat roof is much smaller than that of pitched roofs, and in view of this, you can save a lot of money. family budget on the difference in the cost of materials and, accordingly, on the installation of the roof.
  2. By itself, the installation of a flat roof can be carried out in a much shorter time than with pitched counterparts. The bottom line is that everything you need is under your feet. And besides, you should not climb the slope, wrapping yourself with a rope.
  3. In this case, it is much more comfortable to install various equipment in the form solar panels, antennas and air conditioning systems.
  4. Again, this is an additional usable area, which can be used for a variety of purposes.

Today, on flat roofs, welded roofing is not the only coating option. There are advanced technologies with which even paving stones and paving slabs can be laid, and it is worth agreeing that when combined with such paraphernalia as a rooftop fireplace, a comfortable gazebo and a lawn, such a recreation area can become a favorite for every family member.

But for all advantages, there are also disadvantages. Flat roofs are no exception, and the main ones include:

  • Often in winter time with excess precipitation, a large amount of snow can accumulate, due to which, when warming occurs, unwanted leaks sometimes occur. In view of this, it is necessary to clean the roof manually.
  • In some cases, the use of internal type gutters is relevant.
  • If internal gutters are installed, then there is a possibility of them freezing.
  • You should regularly check the condition of the integrity of the insulation and the tightness of the roofing.

What are flat roofs on wooden beams

If the floor has a wooden base, then it can be built on it various variations flat roof:

  • Unexploited.
  • Exploited.
  • Inversion.
  • Unexploited roof

This version is one of the most elementary. The only purpose of such a roof is protection from weather conditions, and not rest and installation of various furniture and flower lawns.

The overlays in the form of a roof are calculated that no more than 2 people will move along them and only in order to carry out the next maintenance.

exploited roof

This option is much more complicated, but also much more productive to use. It includes the previously described protective functions and is complemented by a usable area for the owner of the building. The base in this case ends not with roofing material or other material, but with such coatings as scattered gravel, paving stones, paving slabs other.

It is on such roofs that you can have parties with friends, install various furniture paraphernalia and even equip an original gazebo.

Roof - upside down or inverted

This type of roof can be used as exploited and non-exploited. It owes its name to the fact that the roofing cake in this case has the reverse order of the layers.

For example, with a standard version of the roof, waterproofing is in any case on top of the insulation, everything is completely different here, that is, waterproofing is on the bottom, and such a standard addition as a vapor barrier system is completely absent. For this reason, the waterproofing system becomes as protected as possible from various impacts and accordingly, from this it will be able to serve much longer than its analogues.

The only drawback in this system is that the insulation suffers from weather conditions and because of this, there are only a few insulation options for installing inversion type roofs.

Some experts are generally sure that only EPPS can be used for insulation. This is explained by the fact that polystyrene does not have water absorption, it has good strength and a rather high density.

It should be noted that the most remarkable option is the green roof, which may well be laid on a wooden base. You can use other loose types of roofs in the form of drainage from gravel, expanded clay or crushed pumice.

How to mount a flat roof and insulate

As the base of a flat roof is a carrier plate, which is made mainly of materials such as:

  • Metal profile.
  • Monolith.
  • Reinforced concrete.

During installation, the top layer is necessarily covered with a vapor barrier material, the function of which is to protect the insulation layer from direct exposure to water vapor. As a result, the material retains all its original properties intact and it does not swell from direct exposure.

The next step is to install thermal insulation, which is covered in the same way with a layer of waterproofing, as a result of which protection from the effects of the atmospheric environment is achieved.

Flat roof structures can be thermally insulated not only with one layer, but also with several, and most often, especially in recent times, it is customary to use a two-layer insulation system.

The operating principles are as follows:

The main role is assigned to the lower layer, which has a thickness of 7 to 20 centimeters, taking into account the wooden trusses and their size.

To distribute mechanical loads, a top layer is installed, which usually has a thickness of 30 to 50 mm.

It should be immediately clarified that the density and strength of the second layer is much higher than that of the first, since this is not a built-up roof and its distribution is purposeful. This helps to greatly reduce the mass, and hence the weight of the total load on the wooden floors.

Finally, it should be noted that doing such work on your own is not only undesirable, but also dangerous. If you do not have practical skills, you can not only spoil the acquired building materials, but also create, due to lack of experience, a variety of emergencies. In the absence of full confidence, you should not risk your health and life, but it is better to turn to specialists for whom such events are common and familiar work.

Video: flat roof for relaxation

If earlier flat roofs were made only on urban high-rise buildings and were associated with constant leaks, today the situation has changed radically. These structures are used not only during construction multi-storey buildings, but also in the construction of prestigious private houses on exclusive projects. Such changes were made possible by the emergence of completely new building materials and technologies.

Flat roofs - one of the many types of roofing, has both positive and negative sides. The advantages of such roofs include the following characteristics.

  1. Saving building materials and speed of construction. The effect is achieved due to physical savings - the area of \u200b\u200ba flat roof is much less than a gable roof. In addition, for this design there is no need to make a complex truss system with various girders, supports, crossbars, mauerlats, etc. A small number of roof elements makes it possible to build flat roofs on your own without involving expensive professional specialists.
True, for this you should have the initial skills of performing roofing works, to understand modern technologies and materials. Otherwise, attempts to reduce the estimated cost of the structure can lead to large additional costs for unplanned repairs. And not only the roof itself, but also the interior of buildings.

  2. The ability to use the roof as exploited. On flat roofs, you can equip winter gardens, places for recreation, flower beds, small playgrounds for sports, etc. But in these cases, the roofs have very complex structure and require a professional approach to the implementation of all construction work.

  3. Flat roofs facilitate installation and periodic Maintenance various engineering equipment: air conditioning and ventilation systems, solar panels, antennas, etc.

Unfortunately, such architectural structures and disadvantages.

We have listed the real advantages and disadvantages, each developer should carefully analyze them before making a final decision.

Varieties of flat roofs in private houses

Thanks to new materials and technologies, designers have been able to create several types of flat roofs with unique performance characteristics.

flat roof typeBrief description of technical and operational characteristics

The most commonly used, simplest and cheapest type of roof. It is most often found on utility buildings, it is rarely mounted on private houses.

Very prestigious roof, allows you to use the area to increase the comfort of living in the building. The arrangement of such roofs requires quality materials and special technologies. The operated roof is often inverted.

It differs from the usual arrangement of layers of the roofing cake. Waterproofing is done directly on the bearing base, this feature protects the coating from mechanical damage. Geotextiles, extruded polystyrene foam, another layer of geotextiles and a ballast layer are laid on top of the hydroprotection. The geotextile allows water to flow to the drain system, and the ballast prevents the layers from being blown up by strong gusts of wind.

Important. The cost of flat roofs varies widely, some options for the price can be several times higher than gable structures.

Roofing pie device

All flat roofs in residential buildings must be insulated, the structures consist of several layers. Each of them performs its function and is critical for the roof.

Base

It can be reinforced concrete or wood.

Professional builders prefer reinforced concrete slabs, but not all houses can use them. Plates are mounted only on brick or concrete facade walls, for wooden or frame buildings, such elements are not used.

vapor barrier

Prices for material for vapor barrier

Vapor barrier material

It is used only in two cases: the base of the flat roof is wooden and mineral wool is used as insulation.

But such options are rare, most often the base is made of concrete slab, and durable extruded polystyrene is used for insulation. Both of these materials are not only not afraid of steam, but also do not react to direct contact with water. Accordingly, when arranging roofs from such materials, vapor protection is not required.

insulation

There are two types of insulation that can be used in the construction of flat roofs.

Heaters can be installed in two ways.

Currently, architects in most cases prefer the second option for flat roof insulation, keep this in mind. But practitioners advise installing heaters from inside the premises. Each builder must make their own decision.

Practical recommendations for arranging a flat roof on a frame house

For example, we will take the option of arranging a flat roof on a wooden frame house. These buildings are very popular with many developers, they are quickly assembled, relatively inexpensive and provide residents with a modern level of comfort.

How to make overlays

For the ceiling, you need to use I-beams, ordinary beams will not work because of very high loads. If the linear dimensions of ordinary beams are significantly increased, then their own weight will play a significant role in calculating the acting forces, and this is highly undesirable for all structural loaded elements.

Important. If the size of the house is large, then it is much more profitable to order short beams and splice them on the spot. Due to this method, the process of transportation and installation of structures is simplified. During installation ceiling beams you need to make a slight slope for the descent of water.

What to make waterproofing

Prices for PVC membranes for roofing

PVC membrane for roofing

For sealing, it is recommended to use a modern high-quality membrane that has protection from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays. The membrane thickness is not less than 1.5 mm, the service life of such coatings is more than thirty years. The membranes must retain their original properties at temperatures of -30°C and below. It must be borne in mind that situations may arise when it is necessary to remove snow from the roof in winter, the hydroprotection must withstand mechanical stress and not be damaged.

How to install a funnel for receiving water

The diameter of the funnel must correspond to the area of the roof and the maximum debit of water. The data are available in comparative tables and are attached to the instructions for using the elements. If for some reason there is no such instruction, then you should consult with the seller.

The funnel is installed at the lowest point of the roof. The roof plane is divided into several sectors and each has a slight slope towards the drain. To prevent ice from accumulating in the funnel in winter, it is recommended to connect an electric heating system. Heating functions temporarily and only during the period when the temperature several times a day changes from positive to negative.

How to properly lay a waterproof membrane

Joints are boiled building hair dryer and are additionally filled with a special two-component adhesive. You should start from the very bottom edge, the width of the overlaps is at least 10 cm. To increase the strength of the fastening, each strip of the membrane is separately fixed with special fasteners, then the wide washers are closed.

Along the perimeter of the parapet, the membrane is also screwed with washers of large diameter, the distance between them is about 20–30 cm.

How to drain water from a roof

Experienced builders do not recommend trying to install external gutters and pipes on flat roofs to drain water to the ground. The best option is to let plastic pipes through interior spaces. Installation of the system should be done immediately after assembling the frame of the house, during sheathing internal walls pipes are hidden. Due to such an installation location, the possibility of freezing is completely excluded, the reliability of the system is significantly increased.

The better to process OSB boards

There are many options, the effectiveness depends not only on the materials used, but also on the professionalism of the master. But practice shows that, under all equal conditions, bituminous mastics have the greatest reliability. Surfaces must be lubricated at least twice, this guarantees the tightness of the coating for a long period of time. Of course, the top membrane must also be of good quality and correctly installed.

In life, it often happens that a permanent thing gets boring very quickly and you have to get rid of it. This happened with the gable type of roofs, which are more readily replaced by flat ones. The technology for the construction of such a building came to us from Europe, but the residents of the CIS countries did not immediately like it. Only when the flat roof began to be laid on wooden beams, developers began to look at it as a real candidate to replace the already boring gable system.

Flat roof device

A flat roof is a coating of polymer, bituminous or mixed products, which are laid in layers on top of each other in a certain order. The finishing coating on the roof plane can be carried out using pouring or welding materials.

The base for a flat roof can be either a reinforced concrete slab or a wooden structure. As a rule, the latter is used exclusively in private construction, where the load on the roof surface cannot reach large values, and reinforced concrete can be found on all high-rise buildings. Since wood is a cheaper material, the price tag for such a roof is much less. In addition, a small mass does not affect the foundation so much.

If the building being erected is not a residential building, then thermal insulation may not be laid. In other circumstances, it is best to use solid materials as insulation on flat roofs, for example, mineral wool or styrofoam. Such products will create a quality and hard surface, which is very important for a flat surface. Purchase only high-quality material, so you can reduce heat loss many times over.

The waterproofing material for the roofing surface, as a rule, is the topcoat, but there are other structures where it performs its direct functions. We will talk about this a little lower. Despite the variety of a flat roof, its structure should include 3-7 main layers of waterproofing. It can be created from different materials, but the purpose will be one: to protect the underlying layers from precipitation. By the way, the most common waterproofing material is roofing material. Until recently, it could last only 5 years, but modern components have extended this period to 15.

Laying euroroofing material on a flat roof is not always profitable. For example, if it is important for you to emphasize your status, then such a coating will not add solidity, but only on the contrary will reduce it. However, beauty can be achieved with any roofing, if only there were additional finances for the arrangement of the parapet. A beautiful fence will not only give status to your building, but also protect those on the roof of vacationers or workers.

The drainage system on a flat roof can be arranged in two ways. The first option will be called the internal drain, and the second - the external one. The last of them can most often be found on high-rise buildings, where the arrangement of an external drain is simply impossible. Concerning internal system, it is simpler and, as a rule, cheaper.

But how to remove precipitation from the surface if the roof has a flat surface? The fact is that it is such only in name, but in fact it has a special slope that sets the direction of the flow. It can be created in many ways, but the most popular ones are:

  • With thermal insulation materials
  • With a screed

To implement the first method, you will have to lay out the heat-insulating plates so that the surface takes the required slope. After that, protective layers are applied to the thermal insulation and all this is covered with a top coat. It is most advantageous to use a screed, as you will create the necessary slope much faster and at a lower cost.

IMPORTANT: A flat roof over wooden beams includes a lot of combustible materials, therefore, build-up products cannot be used as a coating. Of course, this problem can be solved if the first layer of bituminous material is attached to the base with nails or self-adhesive backing.

Varieties of flat roof

The construction of a flat roof can take place in different ways. In one case, you will get a roof that will protect you very well from precipitation, and walking on its surface is fraught with repairs. Another option offers a roof on which a recreation area, workshop, greenhouse or pool is freely equipped.

By functional purpose flat roofs are divided into two types:

  • Unexploited plane. Such a roof is built from very thin, but at the same time high-quality materials. Its maintenance is associated with some difficulties, since special bridges and ladders will have to be arranged to move along the surface. However, some materials can support the weight of an average person, but no more than that. As a rule, the roof plane is covered with a sprayed waterproofing coating, which makes it completely airtight.
  • operating surface. This variety differs from the previous version not only in that several people can move along its plane, but also in the materials used. On such a roof, the presence of heavy objects is envisaged, which means that an alternative technology for laying layers should be used here. In this regard, such a roof can withstand enormous loads in the form of swimming pools, restaurants or parking lots without any problems, although very massive superstructures require foundations in the form of reinforced concrete slabs. Of course, it is not always advisable to build this in private construction, however, this can be arranged.

According to the placement of the layers, the roof can be divided into two types.

traditional roofing. Here, all the layers are placed in the usual order, so this structure has such a name. Bituminous waterproofing is applied on a flat base, then thermal insulation boards are laid and all this is covered with another layer of insulation. As a roofing on such roofs, roofing material is most often seen.

Inverted roof. Here, with the order of the layers, everything is different. Waterproofing is laid on the prepared base, mounted on it thermal insulation layer. On top of all this, a vapor barrier membrane is attached, closing concrete screed. The last layer gives the roof the necessary rigidity, thanks to which massive objects can be placed on it.

A flat wooden roof can be one of all these types, the main thing is to understand what you want.

Installation of a flat roof on a wooden base

flat roof wooden base arranged when you do not have the opportunity to purchase a reinforced concrete slab, or you want to save money. However, there may be other reasons for this. Installation work can be carried out even by inexperienced workers, the main thing is that he understands the principle of the device.

IMPORTANT: It is best to purchase wood in a proven place and make sure that its moisture level does not exceed 22%, otherwise, when it dries, the wood will begin to warp, which will lead to deformation of the entire roof. In addition, before starting work, do not forget to stock up on antiseptics and flame retardants for impregnating lumber.

First of all, in construction, compliance with safety regulations is welcomed, therefore, as preparatory work repeat the basic rules of working at height. So, when all the words are said, we can proceed to the installation.

  • After laying all the main walls, a Mauerlat device is carried out. This bar must be durable, therefore it is created exclusively from coniferous wood. The optimal cross section is 150x150 millimeters. In this case, anchor bolts act as fasteners, although any other technology can be used. As insulating material bituminous material is laid under the support beam.
  • Rafter legs are erected from lumber with a section of 100x150 millimeters. For greater stability, the upper and lower ends of the beam are sawn in such a way that it fits with the Mauerlat. It is necessary to fasten such an element to the support beam using metal corners using long nails. The step of these elements is set by the roofing, but in any case, this value will be in the range of 60-120 centimeters.
  • Immediately after the device rafter legs you can begin to create a solid foundation. To do this, you can use moisture-resistant plywood or OSB boards.

  • If the roof is unexploited, then you can start laying the roofing. As a rule, developers prefer built-up roofs, because sprayed roofs are much more expensive. Since wood predominates in the composition of the roof, the first layer of the roof must be mechanically attached to the base, and subsequent ones can be welded.
  • If the roof is exploitable, then the crate is created in the form of a truss and boards are laid on it. After that, you can lay the roofing cake and close it with a screed.

Before using lumber, it is very important to treat them with antiseptics and flame retardants. The former will help to resist the destructive effects of microorganisms longer, while the latter will increase resistance to fire.

Do you know which roof is best for wooden house and how to make it yourself? The question is far from idle, because, despite the abundance of roofing materials on the market, not every one of them is suitable for arranging your cottage or summer house.

Again, not every roof layout will be relevant for country house built from lumber. Meanwhile, the durability and efficiency of the operation of the house largely depend on the correct choice of the roof assembly scheme and building materials.

What materials are the best solution for manufacturing and what methods can be used for independent installation work, we will talk about this and much more in this article.

Requirements for roofing systems on wooden houses

In order to decide which roof to choose for a wooden house, you need to know in accordance with what criteria to make a choice.

Wooden buildings are specific buildings that are less durable than houses made of concrete and brick. Moreover, wooden buildings are subject to shrinkage processes for a long time.

That is why the main requirements for roofing systems are low weight and, as a result, low mechanical load on bearing walls. In addition, a properly constructed roofing system must be effectively weatherproofed so that accumulation of snow or rainwater does not cause excessive mechanical stress.

In accordance with SNiP, pitched (single-pitched, double-pitched, tent and hip) and flat roofs are being built on wooden roof structures (SNiP II-25-80) today.

The choice of one or another modification is determined by the configuration and standard dimensions of the building object. The standard roofing device assumes the presence of a truss system, lathing, heat and waterproofing, external roofing material.

Roof types according to roofing materials

In accordance with the type of building materials, roofing systems are divided into the following modifications:

  • Slate structures- have received the greatest distribution, since the price of this roofing material is an order of magnitude more affordable than the same tile. Until recently, most of the roofs were equipped with their own hands using asbestos-cement eight-wave slate.
  • Non-operating modifications are a roof that is covered with roll-type soft roofing material. Therefore, such a flat roof on wooden beams is not intended for walking.
To perform operational maintenance or repair of the coating, special ladders or bridges must be made even at the construction stage, which will evenly distribute the pressure over the entire surface.
  • Inversion modifications are another type of flat roofs, which differs in that the insulation layer is located on top waterproofing materials. For comparison, in other flat roofs, the opposite is true. The inverted roof is good for low thermal conductivity and a long service life.
  • Ventilated roofs on wooden low-rise buildings are rarely made due to the complexity of their organization. However, this variety roofing systems allows you to effectively remove excess moisture from under the roof.

To do this, the first layer of the roofing carpet is partially fixed on the roof, using special clamps. Thus, an air gap is formed between the ceiling and the upper part of the roofing cake.

Pitched roof construction

The design of pitched roofs is represented by the following modifications:

  • Shed modifications - when the roof deck is straight, but one edge is raised relative to the others. Such systems are the best choice for small-sized construction projects, such as small cottages, baths, outbuildings etc.

Important: On houses with a large area, build shed roofs not recommended as winter precipitation load may be too high

  • Gable modifications are the most common in construction wooden houses. This is not surprising, since the instructions for building two pitched roof only a little more complicated than the device of single-sided counterparts, while the load on the truss system here is distributed much more evenly.
  • A four-pitched (half-hip) modification is a once very popular type of roof used in the construction of country houses and summer cottages. The design consists of four different-sized slopes.

Important: The construction of such a system requires significantly more roofing material than the construction of the two previous modifications.

  • Roof with an attic (sloping roof) - this solution is used for the construction of an additional residential or utility room.
  • The hipped modification is a variant of a 4-pitched roof, but in this case, all the slopes converge at one point with their vertices.
  • The spire-shaped modification is a kind of hipped roof, but instead of four, six or more slopes are used.

Conclusion

Now that we know what types of roofing systems can be used to equip a wooden house, you can choose best option for the arrangement of your cottage or cottage.

Despite the fact that construction work requires sufficient professionalism and experience, you can handle the construction of most of the listed structures on your own without the help of professional installers.
